Hi, is anyone else doing this holiday?    I'm staying overnight at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Hopefully we'll meet up in the executive lounge at Heathrow.

Julie, looking forward to meeting you again, can't believe it's over a year since Australia!

Does anyone have an idea of how much money we should take with us in yen and HK dollars?

Thanks

Marion

I did this trip last year, it is a really great trip with so many food dishes to try in Japan.

With regard to the amount of money to take, it really depends on how much you like to shop and whether any of the retail opportunities take your fancy or whether there is something you are looking to bring back if you find it. I always end up taking more than I need in local currency and take a bit of sterling in case I do need to change more; these are once in a lifetime trips so while you lose out on exchanging back unused currency there is nothing worse than seeing something you really want to buy but can't because you don't have enough funds. I have done a number of JY trips and come home with some great things that I wouldn't otherwise have bought if I hadn't taken enough cash. For Japan and Hong Kong I budgetted for £50 a day and found I came back with a fair amount of unused currency as it seemed cheaper than I had expected, I know others on the same trip had budgetted in a similar way and also found they had not spent as much as they thought they would.
