Hi Everyone

I'm looking to go away with JY in September on what will be my 2nd JY tour. My first tour was Route 66 and this started my love affair with the USA.

I'm looking at 4 tours that fit in with my leave from work and I was wondering of anyone has either been on these tours and can give me some info to help me decide of is anyone going on them this year.

The tours are:

Americas Historic Trail 23rd September.

Florida 23rd September (from Manchester)

National Parks, Mount Rushmore and a Little Big Horn 23rd September.

Canada and New England in the Fall 23rd September.

They all look great tours and I'm struggling to decide which one. Any help would be great and if anyone has already booked on one of these tours that would be great too.

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul

I to an rather fond of the USA...I am sure if you look in the review section you will find my reports on USA tours..

I went out on the very first Florida tour, it was great fun, it has now been tweaked for the better, so if any specific questions just ask.

My first JY tour was Boston New England and NYC Sept 2006 I had a ball saw and did so much, I realised I wanted to see even more so I went on the CANADA and New England plus NY add on September 2014. Really had good fun I also lined up something's to do independently Whale watching 9/11 museum and Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, museums. really did like having time to do my own things to tick them off the to do list..

I also have done a sort of historic tour, the one I did was Eastcoastliner tour love American history.

Any questions just ask and I will try and answer them

Hi

Have only done one if the trips on your list-Canada and New England. I choose this trip as it combined stays in cities and countryside . I really enjoyed this holiday as ,although it is a busy schedule, it did not feel rushed. The group was smaller than on a previous US holiday and it meant you had the opportunity to mix with the group.

Hi Cindy

There is something about the USA that makes me what to keep going back there and you seem to have the same problem I have in that we both love the country.

I've done Florida but only Disney. I went last Easter and I'm going again at the end of May. A fabulous place and I could very easily go back time and time again.

I was never into History and museums until I did Route 66 with JY and found the whole experience fascinating. The New York add on of the Canada and New England tour sounds great with so many things to see all within easy reach from the hotel. I think I may go for this holiday.

Hi Lesley

Thanks for your comments. When I did Route 66 our schedule was also very busy with some days having to do several hundred miles between cities. We always seemed to have enough time at each stop though to eat and look round any attraction. Our group on this trip was 43. Quite large and we all got along very well. A smaller group would be better I think. The Canada trip is top of my list and may book this one. I can always do the other trios on my list in future years.

Having to start again as my screen froze! 😕 Apologies if it turns up twice!

I am in the same position as you - an even longer list of holidays and trying to make a decision. However I have thoroughly enjoyed several trips to North America and did Historic East with Travelsphere (different first half of the tour) in May 2014 as a single and Canada and New England with JY last date in September 2013.

Of the two - oh - so hard to choose. Loved Historic East for the places visited and the history - seeing the names and places from long forgotten school history lessons and innumerable news bulletins - I felt I was actually touching history at times; plus a black bear up a tree in Shenandoah National Park!

However also loved Canada and New England - again for the history plus the glorious scenery. Cape Cod, the amazing colours, Morse Maple Farm  Quebec - a long drive but worth every minute - don't forget to sample Poutine. The government buildings in Ottawa and the stunning statue of the Queen on Burmese. My first ever helicopter flight over Niagara Falls, and do take the New York add on, there is so much to see and do and its easy to get around (been twice - can't wait to go again!)

Yes both holidays involve a fair amount of driving and some longish days, but hopefully with a knowledgeable, motivated and enthusiastic Tour Manager, in good company, with great scenery and plenty of breaks at some interesting places along the way.

Personally I have been put off the National Parks by the maximum numbers of travellers quoted, despite this being a tour I really want to do. Florida - on the list but perhaps for some winter sunshine in the future!

Good luck with the decision making!

I agree with Kedi's comments about the New England trip. I did it last October and had an amazing time. I wasn't sure about the New York add on, but was so glad I went for it. It was very easy to get around. We were in Lower Man Hatten, not sure if JY are using the same hotel this year. It was very easy to get around in dependently. The hop on hop off buses a great way of seeing the city. The numbers on this trip also seem to be a lot lower than for most of the West Coast tours. I have seen up to 44 quoted for some which is far too big a group for me to be comfortable in. I have already done most of the West Coast. I would love to see the Deep South

But not in such a large group.

Hi Kedi

Thanks for your comments.

It's hard to chose when JY have so many great places to visit. I have decided to do the Canada and New England with the New York add on. All this week I have been trying to decide which holiday to do and finally I made a decision. I shall call JY today and book this trip before it sells out.

For you wanting to go to Florida for some winter sun I think you should go for it. I'm going for my 2nd disney holiday at the end of may with my nephew. Going in the winter would be so much better than going during the school holidays which I have to do. It's a great place.

Hi Sarah

Thanks for your comments.

I have decided to go on the Canada and New England trip with the New York add on. New York is on my list of places I want to visit. A friend I work with has just returned from a trip to New York with his wife and partly from what he told me and partly from the comments in this forum I made the decision to go.

I've only done 1 JY trip which had a very large group. I'm not sure what the maximum number is for this trip but looking at the departures it says that there is only 4 places left. Another reason for me to book this trio before it sells out.

Well done for making the decision. I was in a group of nineteen, which was nice number. Which departure are you thinking of?

When I went it was saying only couple places left, but you will find (I think I am correct check with JULIA) there are only say 10 places for the add on then you are mixed with a group not doing the add on, so you all start together and then the main group come home and the add on people stay there...if it's the same as when I went you have to make your own way to the airport to come home the guys on the hotel door did this for us we had a people carrier to take some people and all the luggage and then a taxi as well...

Hi Sarah

I've booked the trip today. I'm going on the 23rd September tour. I was told there was 16 already booked on the tour with just a couple of places left. Booked it just in time I think.

Thanks for your help.

National Parks is a fantastic trip. The only think I'd beware of is that it may be a little late for Yellowstone.

Hi Cindy

I've read your review on this tour and it helped me chose this tour. So many great things along the way and the ability to chose your own days out on the New York add on. The 911 Memorial is high on my list and I see it's not too far away from the hotel and I wouldn't mind taking in a show while I'm there as well.

Well done you, you will have a great time, there is so much to see and do. If you possibly can, take the helicopter ride over the falls. It is a fantastic experience, as is the boat trip into the falls. Someone on the trip before mine last year wrote a very comprehensive review. If you find it, it will give you lots of useful information.

Hi Sarah

Thanks for your comments. I've read the review that Cindy wrote about this trip. It helped my make the decision to choose this trip. As for the helicopter over the falls. I'm not too sure on that. I'm not that keen on flying let alone flying in a helicopter.
