hi i'm just thinking of a weekend for starters; never been away on my own before; all the weekend uk breaks say dinner and disco! i'm not a dancer and wondering if there is anything else offered otherwise i'm going to be a goosebury! not happy about coach travel either, does it defeat the object if i drive myself the excursion destination? i can be a bit shy and could end up sitting on my own, so not sure whether to book something or not...any suggestions?

Sally,

I don't think it matters if you join in the dance or not, the important thing is to be in the company of other single people. From what I have read on the messageboards it is entirely up to the individual how much they do or don't do.I am sure you wouldn't be left on your own.

Hi Sally,

I've just returned from a Discovery weekend in Daventry. It was really good and everyone enjoyed themselves. You don't have to dance - quite a few people sat on the patio or just chatted at tables. No-one was left out and it felt like I was leaving friends at the end of the weekend as we all said our goodbyes. I drove myself there so just go for it - everybody is on their own - I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Hi Sally

I have just come back from the weekend at Bournemouth. I can honestly say I haven't had as much fun for years. Like you I can be shy and worried that everyone would end up in groups except for me but that wasn't the case. The welcome drink is good to attend because everyone stands around thinking the same and someone will talk to you. We had a lovely rep who intruduced a lot of people. You all have the first thinkgs in common to talk about, How far did you come? Have you been before? And in our case what was the journey like because of the horrendous weather!! Some didn't go to the disco but those that did had great fun and not all danced and some didn't go on the trip. I took the coach to Poole but didn't go to the pottery just had coffee and lunch with people I had met. Lots had been worried about it but in the end so many were friends. I am so glad I did it and some of us are planning to meet up on a weekend next year and possibly a longer holiday. Go for it and have fun x

Hi All

If anyone would like to know a couple of nice little starter holidays, They are Walking in the Ahr Valley 5 day trip via coach. It is a good starter for travellers that have not been away on there own for a very long time, Although it is classed as a walking holiday, It is very mild walking, And is situated in a lovely part of Germany. Slightly further afield, I would recommend the Austrian Lakes, splending scenic views for the budding photographer. Both are very well priced. Good luck all and enjoy.

Regards Andy
