So I'm beyond excited to go to Burma in November, having read all of the tips which are so thorough and absolutely amazing, thank you very much.  I have one question, clothing???? Do we need lightweight trousers or shorts or both, how about tops, sleeveless or sleeved t-shirts, hats, sandals?? HELP.

Thank you in advance

Hi Jools

Definitely lightweight.  Most ladies wore cropped trousers - easier for those eastern WC's.  Shorts can be a problem in the temples if they are deemed too short.  Equally tops - sleeveless or low cut may not be acceptable but you can always have a pashmina to cover.  Scarves and hats are a must for Lake Inle as well as sun screen.  I wore Croc thongs most of the time - easy to slip off for the temples which DO NOT allow you to wear socks. Better fitting sandals for Lake Inle getting in and out of the boat.

Have a great time - I know you will.

Hi,

I went in February, so don't know what the weather will be like in November - check online. However, in terms of shorts and sleeveless tops - you cannot wear these in the temples - knees and shoulders have to be covered. Cut off trousers are fine. You will be completely barefoot in the temples (no socks) but outside of these temples I wore trekking sandels. There are some very early departures (6 a.m. was a lie-in!) and on Inle Lake in particular at that time it can be cold, so take a fleece/jacket etc. A hat is vital too, along with suncream etc. etc.

Anything else - please ask - and enjoy, it is a wonderful country.

Cheers,

Hils

I'm going next month (Feb 2017) and I plan to go in light clothes that cover the arms and legs when possible to minimise the exposure of the sun, plus my panama hat as well. I will take a couple of warm jumpers for the evening though.

Looks like I'll need to get used to early rising. Presumably, this is because of the searing sun in the afternoon.
