I have just returned from the "Riviera Splendour" holiday. I've been looking forward to it so much. To sum it up, the scenery was gorgeous, the Tour Manager excellent, the Hotel AWFUL. The Hotel Parigi was the worst I've ever stayed at in my life, and the experience of staying there totally ruined my holiday from a disastrous start to a very tired finish, therefore I am sad to say that this was the worst holiday I've had with JY. Looking on the hotel website the glossy pictures are deceiving. Even the people who payed extra to upgrade to sea view rooms said the actual rooms didn't bear any resemblance to the pictures. A fellow traveller and myself, two of us out of the party of 24, were tucked away in the attic, on the 5th floor, into rooms which in the not too distant past must have been staff quarters. I practically had to step into the bathroom first, before I could enter the room as the entrance was so narrow. The room was cramped, airless, all the blinds were broken, so could not be operated at all, some of the slats stayed open, others closed. The short flimsy curtains didn't close, so evening lights were disturbing during the night, but the room stayed semi dark during the day. There wasn't much view from up there anyway, due to the faulty blinds plus the giant cacti growing in front of the windows. What view there was, it was straight onto a railway line. The trains stopped running at 11:30 at night and re-started at 4am. One long train followed by a shorter one at exactly 3 minutes later, and this pattern repeated at 15 minutes intervals from then on. A total nightmare! There was no chance of sleeping at all. The bed was so uncomfortable that I had aches and pains in my back and sides all day. The bathroom was something straight out of a prison or police cell; clad in industrial metal from floor to ceiling - so it could just be hosed down, I suppose! All the fittings were metal. The toilet seat was a narrow strip of wood, it was impossible to sit on and looked totally unhygienic. We asked at reception to change the rooms, but they were very unwilling and unhelpful. After two nights of not sleeping I was walking round like a zombie and felt unwell and too tired to tackle the uphill climbs without struggle to some of the medieval villages, and could hardly appreciate the beauty around me. My holiday was totally ruined! Our wonderful Tour Manager, Freddie Morgan was pestering the reception staff and management on our behalf, even begging them, to move us into other rooms, but we could see it on their faces that they were hell bent on not moving us. My fellow traveller and I even considered trying to find another hotel, but it would not have been practical with the group's tight schedule. Finally Freddie's persistence paid off, but even then, he had to sacrifice his own room, so one of us could have that, and he moved upstairs; but even he didn't want the prison bathroom! ...and the poor man ended up counting the trains as we did... He worked tirelessly all through our holiday, trying to make everybody happy and comfortable, and the least he would've deserved was the same, good rest after a tiring day... But that is hardly possible at the Hotel Parigi's unsatisfactorily converted staff quarters!

The room I was put in on our third night was a cramped single room (not a double for single occupation), but at least the bed was comfortable enough to sleep in. However the maids pinched the duvet off the beds, so it was another "battle" we had to fight. The hotel staff was extremely rude from the manager down to the waiters and maids. (There were only two friendly waiters who ever attempted a little smile, one a young man called Sam, and a slightly older man called Izio.) At meal times we were prevented by the head waiter from sitting at different tables, so we could not circulate among ourselves, as a result the group never gelled, and there were people we never had a chance of talking to, so the whole trip was like travelling with various "cliques" and it did create a far from friendly atmosphere.

The only positive about the holiday was the ever cheerful and helpful TM, Freddie Morgan.

However, after this extremely disappointing and disastrous holiday I'm sorry to say, but I'm not sure if I want to take another JY trip, I am so disillusioned...

Hi Deva21,

I'm sorry to hear that you have been left disappointed after your recent holiday with Just You - this is certainly not the experience we had hoped you would have.

I have forwarded your comments up to our customer care team who will contact you directly to address the comments you have made above.

I do hope that JY can address these problems, for future tour groups going on this trip. What a shame you had such a bad experience, I am glad you had a very experienced manager with Freddy, otherwise I think you would of had even more troubles. I am glad the scenery was up to scratch...

Hi Deva,

I am so sorry to hear of the terrible hotel room you were given and hope that JY will deal with this to your satisfaction.  You could not have been in better hands than with Freddie Morgan - he was our tour manager on the Mexico tour that went in February and he was outstanding.  JY should be very grateful to him for the care and dedication he puts into each tour.

Please don't let this put you off travelling with JY - I've done 14 tours all over the world with them and on the whole they are an excellent company - and I wouldn't have got to see the world over these last few years without them.

Best wishes,

Bob

Myself and a friend did the Riviera Splendour holiday with JY last September and had an awful holiday. We stayed in a different hotel but that was a dreadful place too the worst hotel I've had the misfortune to have stayed in. In fact our holiday was a disaster from before we left Birmingham airport to when we arrived back at Nice airport.

I understood the hotel was changed for this year because of the bad reviews and complaints, but it seems not for the better.

We complained bitterly to JY about all the things that went wrong including the disgusting hotel but we got fobbed off. I will never use this company again and feel sorry for people booked to go later in the year.

Hi Deva,

Sorry you had such a disappointing holiday - there is nothing worse than not being able to get a good nights sleep. Thank you for taking the time to write your review anyway. It's always good to hear the high's and lows of any any holiday. Hopefully they will address the issues you raised.

Rest assured that based on all the reviews I have read, this is appears to be an exception to the otherwise good reviews JY usually get. The first holiday I went on with JY was a little disappointing, but since then I have been on three more holiday with them and these have all been amazing.

Kind Regards

Kezzer

Hi Deva

This is a really honest review. Sound like you have every right to expect some compensation from JY for less than acceptable hotel accommodation. I hope the company are reviewing their use of this hotel. I certainly would not consider this holiday at present.

Thank you Julia for your reply.

I tried to attach two photos to my review, but I was unsuccessful in my attempts.

Many thanks Cindy for your reply to my posting. I'm not the only one with complaints about the hotel and the rude staff, you can check it out on TripAdvisor as they have posted their grievances about the hotel there.

The scenery was absolutely beautiful, but when you are exhausted and upset, it is hard to appreciate it all.

Many thanks Bob for your reply to my posting.

Indeed, Freddie was a ray of sunshine, he couldn't have done more even if he tried...

As I've explained to Cindy, I wasn't the only one to complain, please see my note to her.

Actually, this was my third trip with JY, the first two were excellent, Discover Apulia in 2014 and Sicily last year. Of course, the hotels used in both cases couldn't have been faulted. That is why I am so disappointed and wonder if anybody actually checked the Hotel Parigi before engaging them. Unfortunately they do not seem to like groups, and they have certainly demonstrated it to us in various ways.

I understand they've used a different hotel last year. I wonder why we didn't go there this June?

Thank you Kezzer for your reply to my posting. Indeed I am upset about the disappointing holiday, especially that it could've been great as the scenery was beautiful, but it is difficult to appreciate when one is so exhausted, due to discomfort and sleep deprivation. I'm only hoping that JY will chose a different hotel in future for the sake of all the other travellers wanting to do this tour.

I wanted to do this trip last year, but it sold out by the time I was ready to book. I understand they stayed in a different hotel then.

Kind regards,

Deva

Hi Lesley,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I had to be honest, because sadly for me, there wasn't much enjoyment on this tour. I was so looking forward to it, as I've always wanted to see this part of the world. I hope that JY will change hotels, so others don't have to go through the same experience. As I said in one of my previous replies above, that lots of other people complained, if not about the room, but definitely the extremely rude behaviour of the manager and staff.

Once the hotel is sorted, do consider the trip as it takes you to places that so inspired Monet to paint some of his loveliest pictures.

Best wishes,

Deva

Hi Deva

Thank you for your honest review.  I have read the reviews also from yourself and others on TA.  Besides all the problems that you had with the room which is certainly not good, I was shocked to read of the attitude of the Manager and staff.  That's absolutely appalling.  :@

My sympathies.

Hi Deva,

As far as I can see, according to the brochure, JY are only using this hotel for three departures out of all those going this year and next - and two of these have already taken place.  So hopefully they will be able to ensure improvements for the remaining departure and the other hotels used on this tour will be much better for others doing this tour.

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Deva, many thanks for the review.  I had looked at this holiday, would like to go to this area, but was confused by the different hotels on different dates - so was waiting to see how reviews went.

So sorry to hear of your awful experience with the room allocation. Clearly not nearly good enough for a 4* hotel. Been on a few JY holidays where occasionally rooms had limitations (sometimes a bit luck of the draw, but mostly good enough for the time spent in it) but never the prospect of a week somewhere so bad.  I see that this is the second JY trip using this hotel, suspect that maybe the first time out maybe fewer JY travellers or the hotel a bit quieter earlier in the season so these rooms weren't used.  The hotel also seems to have an attitude problem to groups - really stupid of them and so unprofessional.

Hope you have another holiday lined up to look forward to.

Regards

Katy

Hi Deva

So sorry to hear about your bad experience with the hotel. Hope this does not put you off on going on another holiday with Just You. Can't understand the behaviour of the hotel manager and staff - it seems they do not care about the hotel's reputation.

Kind regards

Jaya

Hi joybelle,

First, once again please accept our apologies for the bad experience you had last year on our Riviera Splendour holiday.

We have taken your feedback very seriously as we always do and I believe we have addressed all areas you were disappointed with and provided you with a very lengthy letter summarizing our points after a thorough investigation with all concerned.

In the meantime the decision was made to change the itinerary of this holidays. We are now offering a two centre holiday which means we had to contract some different hotels from the one you stayed at last year!

We are disappointed to hear that you aren't travelling with us anymore Joybelle, we appreciate you have made this decision based on your last experience - this is certainly not one we would have liked you to have with us.

We hope that as you're still visiting the community you can see the positive posts from more recent travellers and these may reassure you to travel again with us in the future.

Kind regards,

Elisa

I don't know if JY already do this, but it seems to me that they could do a lot worse than personally 'road-test' new holidays, or changes to existing ones, before they are released for sale. Look upon it as a quality control measure if you like.

As Deva has already stated, it was difficult to believe that anyone had actually checked this hotel, so bad was the experience. If JY had 'road-tested' this change then one would like to assume that this hotel would never have been selected and consequently, clients disappointment would have been avoided.

As for Freddy Morgan, as Bob has already said, he was outstanding on our Mexico, Guatemala and Belize trip in February. He really does 'go the extra mile' for his customers; I wonder if he offered up a prayer to his 'stress god' after this trip!

Hi Mike, I imagine that JY already 'Road-test" the hotels they use. However I know from personal experience, that a lot can happen between the time you check out a hotel to the time you use it. All of which is often out of your control. You also have to take into account people's personalities and expectations... I bet there were some people on the same holiday that didn't have any issues... and would rate it higher.
