I've just returned from the Cilento Coast and had a wonderful time.

The Hotel Approdo is in a lovely position, situated right on the harbour of a beautiful fishing village.  All the rooms had either views of the harbour, pool/beach or both.  The rooms were very large - my room could have slept a family of 4 - all with balconies.

The hotel itself was always very clean with lots of comfortable seating areas.

The pool was quite small but adequate for the number of people at the hotel, and there were plenty of loungers.  There were also loungers on the beach.  The sea was shingly, so if you're planning on going for a swim maybe take a pair of suitable shoes.

The spa is well worth a visit and was amazing with lots of facilities, i.e. salt and seaweed rooms, sauna, steam room, thalassotherapy pool (with a lot of jets) and an outside pool.  There were also relaxation areas with fruit teas, fruit etc.

The local bus ran from just outside the hotel and went to the next, larger, town of S. Maria de Castellabate and also the hill town of Castellabate.  A bargain at 1 euro each way.

You could also walk into S. Maria de Castellabate along the path and beach, which took about 40 mins.

This is a beautiful unspoilt area of Italy and well worth a visit.  .

I personally didn't do all the excursions because I wanted to take advantage of the local area and the local restaurants which, had I taken part in an excursion every day I couldn't have done.  For instance, there is a wonderful restaurant in the piazza next to the church - well worth a visit for lunch.

I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for somewhere a bit different - away from the hustle and bustle of a larger, more 'touristy'  area.

Hi Olive,

great review.  I went on this holiday a few years ago, before the spa was complete.  Definitely plan to go back sometime.  Its such a laid back Italian holiday, and there's plenty to do in San Marco and Santa Maria if you just want to potter around (although I did do most of the excursions).

Regards

Katy

Hi Olive

Glad you enjoyed this holiday as it is very popular. This is on my list and hopefully I will be able to go once I have exhausted the long haul destinations.

Excellent review Olive, it was lovely to meet you & Maz.

I would like to add that the group, all women mixed together so well, superbly managed by Jan McInley whose organisational skills are the best I have encountered on a JY holiday.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this holiday to anyone thinking of going to Italy.
