Thanks Mandy and Bridget for your replies. I guess this holiday would be good for me to lose some weight if it is not easy to cater for vegetarians! I eat fish sometimes so am sure will survive. I will have to make sure I have fleece lined waterproof trousers when I manage to do this trip. Hopefully JY will not rest it for a few more years.

Hi Jaya,  I did an independent trip of Alaska about 10 years ago and went to many of the places on this trip and more.  The choice for vegetarians was limited but I always managed to find something and was never made to feel a nuisance.  I was actually pleasantly surprised!  I would hope it's still the same now.  Certainly better than our trip to Namibia!

Hi Jaya

If you eat fish then you will have no problems. The Alaskans love their seafood! Crab, lobster and halibut are favourites, and of course, their salmon is legendary. (Just not when it's dissolved in vodka.....)

All the best

Hi Mandy

Much as I love vodka, I don't really fancy salmon dissolved in it!

regarding the cruises in Resurrection bay and to the Columbia glacier, I would just add that you can sit inside the boat if feeling the cold, and just pop outside to take pictures etc.  It is very comfortable and easy to see the scenery. I just wore a light sweater and took a light jacket.

Ray.

Fair point, well made, Ray!

Agreed, both cruise boats were really nice with good facilities inside and out. The included lunch on the Columbia glacier cruise was simple - a bowl of chowder or a veggie version - and as mentioned before, the Resurrection Bay cruise featured the lovely prime rib buffet on Fox Island.

The reason I piled on the layers is that I'm a bit of an iceberg freak (No, Mike W, can't think why....... 😉  ) and so I spent the majority of the Glacier cruise out on deck taking literally hundreds of photos. I know I looked like the Michelin Man but it was worth it - you can't beat a good field of growlers!!

Yes, Jaya, the smoked salmon vodka did not seem popular! (I'm tee total so think I came off better because I received a complimentary soft drink as an alternative). There seemed to be a fair amount of gurning going on among the hardy souls who tried it, while others just gave up and retired outside to make snow angels. (The people at the resort were complaining that they hadn't had much snow this season.....only 844 inches apparently........)

Hi Mandy

I too will become a tee total if and when I do this trip so I can get a soft drink instead of this horrible sounding vodka!

Hi just got back from the September trip to Alaska had a great time our tour manage was Brian Croft who was great and fun to have around and made everything happen on time. Our bus driver called Tony was very good and new every thing about Alaska so we had the history about Alaska as well. Had a great group of people on the tour as well

The weather was changeable every day we had sun, rain, snow in the mountains, misty and fog but not too cold. But when we were out side it behaved and we mostly had sun.

we had some changes our welcome dinner was at the Glacier Brew House which turned out great and the food was good.

The vodka and salmon tasting did not happen we went to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre. Which looked after animals like when a mother bear was killed they took the 3 bear cubs to look after. Or injured animals.

The Chocolate factory we did drop in on our way out of Anchorage on the way to Seaward for a ten min visit to see the chocolate waterfall and chocolate tasting.

Loved the Wilderness Dog Sled tour, The cruise from Seward Resurrection Bay the food was great, The train ride to Denali National Park, The tour of Denali National Park, The Dredge tour for gold which I ended up with $15. The Artic Circle adventure when we were up in the mountains we had snow. We never got to fly back because when we got as far as The Artic Circle we could go no further as the plans were not flying in or out as it was snowing and very fogy so we had to turn back on the bus so we spent like 14 hours on a bus that day not Just You fault but the weather.

The best one was the Cruise of Prince William Sound and the Columbia Glacier which we got so near about quarter mile

We saw some wild life as well like Sea Lions, Golden Eagles, Moose, Sheep, Brown bears one with her 2 little cubs and 2 White Beluga Whales and lots more.

We had a clear view of Mont McKinley Mountains when we got to Denali we had blue sky's

Had a great time.

Hi Mandy, many thanks for your thoughts on the Sept tour - I'm very interested in doing Alaska in a couple of years so your comments are most valuable and very much appreciated.

Best wishes,
