I recently returned from a week in northern Mallorca. The weather was excellent and our Tour Manager, George Wales, looked after the group very well. I went on all 4 excursions (2 included and 2 optional) and enjoyed them all. They gave us a good overview of the island. The road from Puerto Pollensa to Palma was mainly motorway (about an hour) but 2 of the other excursions included quite a lot of hairpin bends and I would thoroughly recommend taking a travel sickness tablet beforehand.
Hotel Pollensa Park & Spa is large (about 300 bedrooms over 7 floors) and has recently been refurbished. All rooms have a balcony and are light and comfortable - someone with chronic bad pain commented at the end of the week that his back hadn't troubled him at all until he was on the plane going home. My bathroom was a good size with bath and shower over. The airconditioning worked well and was easily adjustable and the television had 8 English channels.
Every room has a safe deposit box: 3.50 euros per day to hire plus a 3 euro refundable deposit. You need to get instructions from Reception on how to set up the safe but, once done, it works in the usual way with push buttons.
There were a few grumbles about people overhead dragging furniture across the tiled floors but I only heard it once, briefly. There is a sports bar opposite one side of the hotel which has tribute acts each evening fom 9.30 to 11.00 pm but they finished fairly promptly.
Our stay at the hotel was on an all-inclusive basis - food, snacks, tea, coffee, local alcoholic and soft drinks. There is a large dining room providing a well-stocked buffet. The food was good with plenty of choice. A member of the party who counts himself an expert on muesli for breakfast commented that it was the best he had come across on holiday - not the usual "sawdust". The hotel can provide packed lunches if they are ordered before 8.00 pm the previous day; one or two people in our group had them and seemed to find them satisfactory but I preferred to eat wherever we found ourselves on the excursions.
The hotel has a swimming pool with banks of sun loungers and umbrellas around it and there are also lawns where one can get away from the crowd. Towels can be obtained from the Spa & Wellness Centre for a deposit of 10 euros paid at Reception beforehand and reimbursed at the end of the week when the towel has been returned (I was told that the towel could be swapped for a clean one when necessary).
The hotel has an ATM but there are also plenty in the side streets off the main promenade. The street outside the hotel has 2 small supermarkets selling bottled water, suncream and (that day's) English newspapers as well as other everyday items. The hotel bedrooms all have a small fridge for a minibar (empty unless one places an order with Reception) so there was space to keep water, soft drinks etc.
There were a lot of lycra-clad club cyclists around while we were there and the hotel has a dedicated bike storage room. One can hire "normal" bikes from a shop in the neighbouring street (I don't know the cost or whether cycle helmets are available) and cycle along the promenade for quite a long way. Surfboards, canoes etc can be hired on the beach and the hotel has several tennis courts.
There is a good bus service around the local area and to Palma, if you would prefer to "do your own thing" rather than go on the optional excursions or on the free days.
For those who want to go to church during their stay, besides the local Catholic churches there is a Church of England one, St Andrew's, just off the promenade: Sung Eucharist at 10.00 am on Sundays and also a service about midday on Thursdays.
Prices outside the hotel: coffee with milk (con leche) 1.60-2 euros; icecream 1.60-2.20 euros per scoop; English newspaper 2-4.50 euros.
Overall, an enjoyable holiday and one I can thoroughly recommend, whether you want to go sightseeing or just relax in and around the hotel.
