I am hopefully doing this trip on 23rd February and I am a little confused as to where the optional excursion in Thekkady fits in as it appears we arrive lateish on the first day and have a boat trip in Periyar on the second day. 

Do you have any news on whether this trip has the green light before I pay my balance and possibly book this excursion?

This excursion is done on Day 5 of the tour.

It starts very early morning – approx. times are:

06:00 Wake up call for Optional Nature Trek.

06:45 Depart hotel via coach to Nature reserve.

07:00 Arrive reserve & begin walk (8-10 km)

09:00 Finish walk return to hotel

After this the group will have breakfast and then start all the sightseeing – Periyar Game Reserve.

Unfortunately there has been no update yet on whether the trip has been given the green light.

I did the nature treck and really enjoyed it. The guides are local tribes people who have been resettled back in the forest and are employed as Rangers. The leech socks we had to wear were a source of much laughter!!!
