Hi there

I'm booked on the October Uzbekistan tour and I'm struggling to work out what to pack regarding clothing.

I've read conflicting reports - some say legs fully covered and long sleeves regardless of where you are and some say legs and shoulders covered.

Can you please help?

Hi Sandra,

Though there is no required dress code for travellers to follow in Uzbekistan, although conservative dress is common throughout the country. Whenever tourists visit functioning monuments (e.g. Madrassahs), women should cover their shoulders, though in other areas women are free to wear shorts, sleeveless tops and short dresses. So really it's what you would feel comfortable in.

Please note that you may be required to take your shoes off in some places, so some comfy shoes that are easy to take off and put back on is essential.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

Hi Sandra,

Just wear what you would on a normal holiday. I went in September 2012 and had the same dilemma. I wore 3/4 trousers and t-shirts. Some days longer shorts. I had cover up clothing but took them home unworn. Pashmina handy to have tho I don't recall using that either!

I totally agree about it being safe. I wandered in the evening alone before evening meals just as the sun was setting in Bukhara and Khiva. Memorable.
