Hi Julia.

I know it's a long way ahead but I was wondering how the bookings are looking for this one? I still have it in mind to do it, but can't do anything about booking at least until I get back from Costa de la Luz.

Thanks as always.

Hi Bosuncat, there are currently 13 people booked for the May departure (12 female, 1 male, age range from 46 to 75).

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Cindy, Julia is on annual leave so has handed over to her deputy :)

There are 35 places for the May departure, although if it proves to be particularly popular, the absolute maximum would be 40.

Thanks,

Tim

She is going to have a great holiday I am so jealous she is going to have a great time.

I know you will look after us all so very well in her absence!

So could be quite a large group! That will be fun

Hello All,

I am booked on this trip for next May. Never been to the Last Post at Menin Gate so one of the reasons why I booked this. My Great Uncle is at Arras and will be going to see him May 2016 as that will be his Centenary.

Hi Jan.

Is the monument at Arras the one for the ones with " no known grave"? Because if so my Great Uncle is listed on there. He died in March 1917.

Hi,

I think most of them have a "no known grave" section, but the big one is at Thiepval - absolutely huge, and a very moving experience. I went some years ago and have no wish to go back.

Hello Bosuncat,

Excuse the spelling, Fauburg D'Amien is the name of the Cemetary where there are 35 thousand unknown engraved on 10 walls. Have been there twice and it is so inspiring. I have seen the original War Diaries and know that Great Uncle Bernard was with others caught in the middle of the two armies due to lack of communication. This was 6 weeks before the push for the Somme. Arras is a beautiful town and loved going under the Boves- tunnels that the tommies lived in whilst the Germans above did not know.

Thank you Jan. My Great Uncle Ernest was my Grandm's younger brother and he was killed during the Last Big Push. The family was split up and it was a great sorrow to my Grandma that she was never able to find out what happened to him. Just "missing in action". It wasn't until well after she died that a gentleman that I knew was able to go on the Commonwealth War Graves website for me and find what little information I do have.

Hello Bosuncat,

If you know when he died, name and regiment then you can find out a lot from the War Diaries. They are online at National Archives. We could never understand why Bernard was with the London Regiment when his family lived in Newton Poppleford in Devon?

Apologies for the late reply on this, due to me being away. I think I will be booking this for next May very soon.

Julia what is the provisional departure time from St Pancras International please? Have never travelled with Eurostar and never been to France and Belgium so this is a whole new experience.

Thanks for the answer Julia. If I can get an early enough train from Nottingham into St Pancras that departure time is perfect.

And thanks Cindy. It WOULD be great to meet up again. Hope the Falls went well!

Hello All,

I decided to upgrade to the Premium Class on Eurostar as it maybe a journey I will not make again as I shall take my car to Arras in 2016. An extra £140, but hey you cannot take it with you :P
