I do use a pre-paid currency card, but can only withdraw a maximum of £300 per day and only 4 withdrawals in 5 days, so will still need to take considerable amount of cash with me if I am to avoid costly credit/debit cards.

Hi DavidG,

I used a pre-paid card for my visit to NZ last year and took NZ300$ with me. I found that NZ was not as expensive as Australia and did not have to use my pre-paid card well into the tour. Money went further than expected.

I paid for the helicopter ride to the Frans Joseph glacier by my pre-paid card and drew out cash with it for other excursions like Milford Sound.

My card did get used quiet a bit when buying presents for my return home but I used this at the airport on our way back.

I am going on the Prague Vienna & Budapest trip in October and have booked the night time Vienna concert. I was wondering if it is possible to arrange similar entertainment in Prague if enough people were interested? They have wonderful light and puppet type shows which I would love to see again.

Also thank you for the advise on the currency card, I didnt know such a thing existed.

Hello, David

I use pre-paid currency cards from the Post Office and was never aware that there might be a maximum daily/weekly withdrawal limit. Could you perhaps take another currency card from another supplier as well so that you could alternate them and avoid having to carry cash? Just a thought.

Do have a lovely time in New Zealand. It's somewhere I've always wanted to go but the distance has put me off -the journey to Canada in June was long enough for me.

Best wishes, Ann

I did the New Zealand trip in February this year. I took a large amount of cash to pay for the helicopter excursions. I can understand that being dependant on weather conditions, so pre-booking is not possible, but all were payable by credit card directly to the operator. Although expensive, the flights were the highlight of the trip, especially the return flight Milford Sound to Queenstown.
