Hi Olly,

I'm booked on the March Spirit of India trip and have a few questions for you :

- do you know who our tour manager will be

- what plug adaptor will I need

- are ATMs readily available or would I be better taking all my money in cash

Hi Annette

Your tour manager will be Barbara Eastlake.

http://electricaloutlet.org/

It says: "A variety of electrical plugs are found throughout India, so an all-around adaptor plug set is recommended. Type D is most common. Some hotels have desks and workstations which accept a variety of plug types. But no matter what type of plug, voltage in India is 230V 50 Hz."

These sets are also known as universal or global adaptors and you will be able to use them on future holidays too.

As for money, bear in mind that most of your meals (apart from 6 lunches) and excursions are included so you won't need a lot of spending money. Personally, I would take about £250-300 in sterling and change into rupees at Delhi airport. I'd also take my cards and let the bank know I planned to use them in India - so if you do need a bit extra, you will be able to get it. India is very high-tec in some places now so you shouldn't have too much trouble withdrawing cash in the big cities.

Kind regards

Hi Annette,

I'm going on this tour too, looking forward to meeting you! I've been told that most places in India use the same type of plugs they use in Africa - with three large pins, so I'm bringing that type of adapter, as well as the universal set. I was thinking of bringing around £500 to change at the airport, just to be on the safe side. However, I did read somewhere that you can sometimes get a better exchange rate at the hotel, so I think I'll ask the tour manager what she thinks. It should be a fantastic holiday, can't wait!

best wishes,

Bob

Thank you Olly and Bob for your advice. Will look out for a universal adaptor and take my african one. Didn't think about changing money at the airport in Delhi but will take sterling and do that.

Looking forward to this trip, won't be long now.

Hi,

I'm also booked on this trip.

My friend has recently been through Delhi airport and noted that all the prices in the duty free are in US dollars.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Julia

Hi Olly,

Forgot to ask what the weather will be like in March. I'm assuming it will be warm but don't want to be caught out by not taking appropriate clothing. Can you advise please.

Many thanks, Annette

Hi Annette

You are right - it will be warm. At least 15 degrees Celsius and possibly as much as 30 degrees or more. It will also be very dry, with little rainfall at that time of year.

Hi Carole

India in late April will be warm to very hot (around 20-35 degrees Celsius) so the nights will be warm. But it might be worth taking a cardigan or jumper anyway, as sometimes hotels can have quite chilly air conditioning. A jumper will also be useful on the flight, as aircraft cabins can be cold too.
