Can you just clarify something for me please?

I am go to Lima from Birmingham via Amsterdam with KLM, so will I need to check-in by 2 hours before the flight (as for short-haul) or by 3 hours (as for long-haul)? Just so I can make arrangements for parking my car at Birmingham.

I know I will be able to check my luggage to go all the way through to Lima so I just need to know how long to allow.

It would be two hours because your first flight is only short-haul - but if you are anything like me you'll probably want to get there early anyway, just in case there are any delays on the way!
