Sorry to sound so negative but for the price being quoted, one would expect a hotel of at least 3 star standard ..... this sounds more like a 1 / 2 star.

The rest of the trip sounds lovely but I really think I will be looking elsewhere until either JY change the hotel /location or this hotel makes some improvements.

I'm sorry you have been put off by this review. This is an extremely popular holiday and most of the feedback we get is very positive about all aspects of the tour, including the hotel. I hope you won't miss out on seeing this beautiful part of the world for yourself because of one or two opinions from people who may have very different tastes to your own.

It's a small hotel run by a family. Not the most luxurious in the world, but friendly and very clean. Eating breakfast outside on the terrace was lovely..... and I got quite a liking for the croissants !

I didn't have any problem with the traffic noise. I had a nice balcony with a side view of the sea.

Location was good, only 5 mins from sea front, with nice promenade to walk along. Excursions were excellent. I particularly enjoyed Nice.

Don't let the mixed reviews put you off booking - you'll miss out on a lovely holiday.

Many thanks for your reply. I'm certainly not an over fussy traveller but it did seem that there were a lot more negatives than positives about this hotel & location. I have been to Nice & Monte Carlo before but never Portofino or Alassio and would really love to visit those places. I did my first trip with JY last Sept to Lake Como & had the most wonderful time in every way so I suppose I feel it's a hard act to follow & don't want to risk being disappointed!

I will bear your comments in mind ..... I think maybe now it's a toss up between this & heart Of Alpine Europe trip.

You're probably right. I think I had such a wonderful time on my first trip that it's set a precedent and I don't want to be disappointed .... but hey how can Italy ever disappoint!

I can thoroughly recommend it but would strongly suggest you upgrade to a lake view room at the hotel. That just gave it the Wow factor for me! The tour guide was superb from start to finish. She made the excursions such fun with her knowledge and enthusiasm. The only trip I didn't do was the St Moritz train trip .... instead I took the ferry to Varenna and spent the day there with a newly found friend from JY. Milan was a great day with a very informative visit to the cathedral. We were lucky in that the weather was very kind to us all week. There isn't much to do after the evening meal .... Tremezzo is very small but we did sometimes take ourselves off to the Grand Hotel bar for cocktails! Hope this helps:thumbup:
