I have booked on this holiday for 2nd Sep. Can you tell me how many have booked for this trip? Also, I put a query on the message board to try to make contact with anyone going on this trip and although it says there are 2 posts I can only see my one. Any ideas on what has happened? Thanks, Anne.

Hi Anne

So far 22 people have booked this tour.

Your original message post now has three messages attached to it, including yours, so do have another look. The delay might have been because the later message was posted over the weekend and still needed to be 'approved' by me. I have to read everything before publishing in case anyone says anything they shouldn't!

Kind regards

Thanks for the info. Good to know that lots of people have booked this holiday. I've checked the message board and I can see the other posts now. I think my nerves were getting the better of me.

Are flight upgrades available (UK/China & China/UK only)?

Hi David

Yes, business-class upgrades are possible on this trip. I believe the cost is around £800-£1000 for the return trip. I don't have any information about availability, though, so if you are interested, please call our customer advisors on 01858 581980.

Kind regards

Hi David

Yes, upgrading is rarely cheap - especially on long-haul flights. A once in a lifetime experience, perhaps?

Hi David

Sorry to be off the mark. The price I mentioned was our standard one but prices do vary quite a bit depending on the time of year and how much the airlines need the money. In the current climate there are some bargains to be had on upgrades. (I'm assuming the price you were quoted was 100% better!).

Oh! Still, it's always worth asking, as you can get some very good deals from time to time. Have a great trip.

Hi, I'm really looking forward to this holiday but have a couple of queries. Is it possible to obtain Chinese currency before going to China? My son in law, a regular business traveller to China, says I can take the equivalent of about £100 in. Not sure what to do. I know you advise taking a debit card which I will take to obtain cash or pay for goods over there. Also I want to buy an adapter to charge up my mobile phone/camera. I've seen some that specify that they are for "some parts of Asia" but not sure whether to get this or not. Can you advise

Hi Sheila

You can indeed buy Chinese Yuan in advance. Many main branches of Thomas Cook and Marks & Spencers Foreign Exchange have currency available over the counter, and most banks and post offices are able to order Yuan for you. You may also purchase Yuan at all major airports but the rate of exchange may not be as favourable.

You can take up to 6,000 Yuan to China, which is about £400. There is no limit on the amount of other currency you can take into China, but if the amount is over £2000, this must be declared to customs!

Regarding your question about the adapter, we recommend that you take a universal/ international adapter with you, as sockets vary quite a bit around China, and you'll also be able to use it wherever you go in the world in future. Ask the staff in the shop if you aren't sure which ones are which.

From the Travel section of Saturday's Daily Telegraph "Readers need to be warned about the hazards of taking travellers cheques to China. If they want to change these at branches of the Bank of China, they will be asked (in Chinese) to provide photocopies of every cheque and of their passport...When I visit China I change as much as I can bear at Beijing Airport. The rate is good, the service quick and all you need to show is your passport". Comments please - I am concerned!

Hi David

It can be a chore to change travellers' cheques in China. Personally I would take plenty of Chinese Yuan with me (you can take 6,000 into the country - about £400) then use my debit card to withdraw more from cashpoints as and when needed. Check with your bank to make sure your card can be used in China.

It is a very safe country for tourists so I wouldn't be unduly worried about carrying cash around.

Kind regards

Hi Olly, I have read all the information on this trip and wonder if you could advise me I intend to take the Yuan (about £400 worth) if I was to take say another £200 in American dollars (sterling) is it just as easy to use as the Yuan? Also I am flying from Manchester to Heathrow on the 2nd Sep are there any other travellers doing this Manchester trip? When would I expect to know what time I will be flying from Manchester so that I can arrange transport from Leeds to the airport? Will I collect my luggage at Heathrow to be checked in to fly to China. I assume it will not go straight on to the Air China flight after checking in at Manchester.

Thanks in anticipation - Dot25

Hi Dot

You could take dollars or sterling with you but you will need to change it into Yuan when you are in China. Another option is to use your debit card at the cashpoints over there. If you would like to do this, check with your bank before travelling.

There will be five of you flying from Manchester, so I'm sure you'll all keep each other company. Look out for the luggage tags at the airport!

You will only need to check your luggage in once, at Manchester. It will be transferred to the Air China flight for you at Heathrow.

Your final documents have been put in the post today, but I believe your flight departs Manchester at 14.00. The return flight arrives back at Manchester at 22.05 on September 13th.

Have a great holiday!

Hi Olly. I've too have read all the information and have found it really helpful. How many are booked on this holiday? Also I've read that Martin Williamson will be our tour manager. When do we actually get to meet him. On my last Just You holiday we met our tour manager at the destination airport. Just waiting on my final documents now so I can book my parking and get my Chinese currency. Also my doctor's surgery recommended I have some vaccinations so am booked in to get these sorted this week. Just packing to do then!
