I have never been to this part of the world, can you tell me what the weather is like in Sept as I am not sure what sort of clothes to take, or even how hot it will be, thanks

The temperature in Italy in early September should be very nice. On the warmer side but still very pleasant. I would pack plenty of light clothing plus a jumper or two. And a lightweight waterproof is always worth having.
