Hello Olly,

My trip to Beijing is 10 hours from London and I want your opinon on DVT socks.

They look very uncomfortable..I rather not wear them.

Im 34,good health and I rather do foot exercises in my seat,or walk around on the journey.Whats your view on it please? Also is this a straight though trip all the way there?

Secondly due to money worrys Im going to China without the Shanghai add on,so now be going Aprill 22nd for 10 days..what kind of weather, temps and clothes would I need to take for this trip?

Many thanks on reading my message.

Sharon.

Hi Sharon

First of all, I would urge you to consult your GP or NHS Direct about medical matters. They know a lot more about these things than I do!

However, I do think it is worth wearing DVT socks. Research has shown that they can reduce the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis by as much as 90 per cent. They work by compressing the leg from the knee down, allowing the blood in your legs to flow properly. If you really don't want to wear them, I'd suggest making sure you drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol, and make sure you get up for regular walks and wiggle your toes from time to time.

As for the temperatures you can expect, April is a very good time to visit China as it will be warm and sunny. Daytime temperatures average 50-60ºF but you should take a lightweight waterproof jacket in case of the odd rain shower and also a warm sweater/ jacket to wear in the evenings.

Lastly, your flight from Heathrow is direct to Beijing.

Have a fantastic trip!

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

Hi Olly,

Many thanks for your quick reply and the detail you gave me.

I think its best I get these socks,as I do like a little drink before or during a flight, but dont want to drink to much of anything due to going to the toilet.

Thanks for the help on clothing and temps as well,I think my leather jacket and a cardigan will go well.I might get a fleece too.

I guessed the flight would be straight there but I thought I would ask.

Once again many thanks for your help!

Best wishes,

sharon.
