Anyone going on this holiday on 18th June 2022.

Any advice from anyone who has been on this tour.

What extra tours would you suggest.

Also any ideas as to what type of clothes I will need to take with me, as I never done a trip like this before. Any help please.

Hi Jules.

I did the Canada East to West + cruise back in June ‘19.

First thing to say is you’ve chosen well !

My 30 days was the best 30 days I’ve ever had. The best bits though, for me, were undoubtedly the West and the Rocky Mountaineer. The Rockies are stunning. Banff is gorgeous. The add-ons terrific.

Pick of these would be the Rockies helicopter flight (outstanding) and Vancouver Island (great day). Like Rose, I did all the add-ons .. only there once, after all.

I would wholeheartedly agree with Rose re the RM. Upgrading to gold, if you can, is so worth it for all the reasons she mentions.

I posted separate reviews of both the West and RM, so if you want an idea of what to expect do a search and have a read. Allow plenty of time. They are rather long !

As for clothing, we enjoyed fabulous summer weather throughout with a little rain mixed in. Our trip up Grouse Mountain was done when the top was engulfed in low cloud. As a result it was very chilly ! That and the excursion onto the Athabasca Glacier were the only time something warm was required. Cover all bases is the rule, I guess.

The tour you have chosen is an absolute cracker. You’re in for a treat. Enjoy !

Regards,

Roger

I went on this trip a few years ago in November, it snowed and was very cold in places, however on Vancouver Island it was hot and sunny! As always, I'd suggest layers and a waterproof jacket. I did all of the extra tours and enjoyed every one, the rafting was great fun and I loved Vancouver Island, don't miss that, it's a lovely day out!

One thing I can say is that I upgraded on the Rocky Mountaineer and felt it was well worth it for many reasons, we had a much better hotel at the overnight stop in Kamloops, we were higher up so had better views and it was nice to be able to go down to the dining room for meals rather than eat at our seats. We had more space and bigger windows with an outdoor viewing platform and also nicer food. I'd suggest you search reviews to see what other have said. Enjoy the trip!

Hi rose. What time of the year did you go on this trip. Jules4954

Hi roger.

I’m trying to work out how much money I need to take for this holiday, it’s 12 days from Heathrow back again. Did you use a prepaid card. Or did you take Canadian dollars. Please help needed

Blimey Jules, you’re testing an oldie like me’s memory there. :-)

I think the obvious answer is take both. Cash and a card.

My extravagances were mainly the extra excursions. I was able to pay for some pre trip, but there were quite a few add ons available once there. Prob best to check with JY on the current system.

Otherwise it’s lunches/dinners when you’ll need cash or card. I tended to use the credit card when possible just to make sure I had enough cash if necessary. Small items/indulgences (we stopped at a great little ice cream parlour in Stanley Park, Vancouver .. yum, yum !) and tips are best served by cash obviously. And then there are the souvenirs, gifts etc..

Rather than take a whole load of cash it might be best, therefore, to make use of a card when you can.

I would allow $20-25 dinner and $10-15 lunch. But then I’ve got a healthy appetite ! Sometimes a snack is sufficient (e.g. RM halfway stopover).

Always allow for the unforeseen temptation. Sometimes you just have to !!

Hope that’s of some help. Please ask if you need any further advice.

Regards,

Roger
