Hi Apricot

I went on this tour in March 2019.  It’s a superb tour.  I gave some tips about the holiday in another post on the site but, to answer your question, I took £100 in Chilean Pesos, £100 in Brazilian Real (you won’t need this amount, unless you’re buying lots of souvenirs.  Both currencies can be exchanged in Argentina) and a travel currency card that was loaded with pound sterling.  I used this in Argentina.  It converts the sterling into the local currency and used like any other card.

The ATM’s are not always reliable.  I tried withdrawing currency in Mendoza (using the currency card) and only succeeded after three attempts on two machines.

I had difficulty buying Argentinian pesos in the UK, although some members of the group bought them from Marks and Spencer online bank.  If I was going to Argentina again, I would certainly try and buy some in the UK (I don’t like to rely on one form of payment when I’m abroad).

If you have any questions, please ask.  You will have a wonderful time.

Hi Apricot

I just signed up for this tour - bit of a last minute impulsive adventure!

I've been looking into currency too and most common advice for Argentina seems to be to take US Dollars ($50 or $100 bills) and change them at the airport . Not ideal for us who will be driving into Argentina but assured there will be lots of other places to exchange.

Looking forward to meeting you and our other fellow travelers.

Hi Morag

Nice to hear from you and I look forward to meeting you and others too.

In the end I got some Chilean pesos and ordered a Starling card where there's no commission on foreign exchange. It was easy to set up and took a couple of days to arrive. The other card recommended to me was Revolut as I couldn't get Argentinian pesos or Brazil money. Think US$ is good too as you say.

Hi Sandie - the advice I got was to make sure it was big bills $20 or $50 as they won't accept lower for exchange (or tips!).
