I’m taking this trip on 25/10/18 but have to fly down to Heathrow the day before, 24/10/18, is anyone else booking into a hotel prior to the holiday?

Hello Mutley,

I did this last October. I stayed at Park Inn on Bath Road, using the Hoppa bus from Terminal 2. We had to be at T3 for 6.25 am. I booked this 6 months in advance getting it for a good price.

I have just returned from this fabulous trip and I took far too many $NZ. I have $915 left and the buy back rate is horrendous. If there is anyone living close to the Midlands that would like to buy these at a rate better than anywhere I would be happy to meet up and exchange them for british pounds.

Oh sorry Travelcam, I'm nowhere near the Midlands so I can't help you out. Yes the rate is gong up every day, 1.94 to buy today.

Hi Travelcam

I am going on this trip in November. Can I be cheeky and ask you how much did you take for the trip?

Thanks

I went on this tour a few years ago, unfortunately you need to take a vast amount of money, as you will be buying lots of lunches and dinners and also coffee and cake stops etc...so that needs taking into account. Also many of the optional extra were paid in cash, so I took to cover that, although I only managed the helicopter to Franz Joseph as the others didn’t happen due to weather conditions. Also when I went the excellent tour manager added in 4-5? Extra trips these all mounted up so do allow for extra excursions you don’t want to miss out on anything as it’s a long way to go back..

I know you have travelled before so I am sure you can work out a daily food allowance and then x it by the amount of days, plus optional trips, souvenirs etc it all mounts up. I did come home with money but only because the other flights didn’t happen.

Take as much as you can, plus credit cards, etc... it’s a great tour, there are some long drives so catnap when and where you can.

I went in November 2017 taking £750 for NZ dollars and £200 for Singapore dollars which I changed before I went out. All excursions had been paid here in Britain before I left. The Franz Joseph was cancelled due to cloud cover and the trip around Mount Cook was NZ$425 paid on credit card as they did not take cash. Like Cindy said, the TM organised extra trips which needed cash. Came home with very little as I knew I would never go back in my lifetime so I spent as much as I could.

Hi James

I took £250 for Singapore of which I only spent £150 for the 3 days and went on all the trips and £1000 for NZ of which I have brought back £495. I did not go short of anything. I paid for my excursions before I went except the flights in NZ which could be paid for by CC. I am not one for spending on material things and I only spent about £50 on a few souvenirs. The rest of my money went on meals and drinks. If you like to eat and drink at every available opportunity then you will need more than me as I am not a big eater or drinker.

In my opinion I think it's best to take a reasonable amount of cash and then have a zero credit card just incase, that's what I did but never used it.

Good luck and enjoy the trip, it's wonderful.

Hi Cindy, Jan and Travelcam

Thank you all for your replies. I was thinking along the lines of taking about £50 per day as well as a credit card and from your replies it seems to be the right amount to take.
