Hello to all JY solo travellers.  🙂

This is my first attempt of posting a message and travelling on my own!  I am thinking of booking a holiday to Andalucía in September. This is quite daunting for me therefore I would appreciate any feedback to put my mind at ease before I take the first step.

Hi calmusic, I am about to go on my first Just you holiday to Croatia in June . The hardest part for me was getting the courage to book a holiday. Once that was done i found that with each day i llooked forward to it more and more and of course the encouragement you get from the community.. If i was you find somewhere you have always wanted to go then take that first step .

Best wishes

Sue .

Hello Caroline,

I fully understand, as I was in the same situation. I went with JY to Tuscany last October, and had a really lovely holiday. As others have said, you will find like minded and friendly people, so I would say ‘just go for it’!

I was so impressed with the organisation of my trip that I have booked a longer holiday in May.

Very best wishes, Sue

Hi Caroline

I agree with Rose although I assume she meant ( like minded people ) in her final sentence??? As has been said on here before pick somewhere you have always wanted to go and let JY take care of the rest. My first was Sicily in May last year now Tuscany in May this year and planning probably Lisbon May next year. I don't know what she means about it being addictive !!! I think the motto is pick it, book it, enjoy it. You certainly won't have any regrets just go for it.

Have fun

Hi Sue

Thank you so much for your reply.  That's great you have booked your first holiday to Croatia. It is  supposed to be a beautiful country.  After receiving your kind words of encouragement I do feel a lot more confident.  The Community seem so nice and very helpful giving first timers sincere advice.  One of my main draw backs is the airport but as I have read from other travellers the rep is there to meet you.  I feel a lot better knowing this.

I think I will consider booking the holiday 🙂 I'm nearly ready ha....

Thank you again

Hi Caroline

I'd advise that you take the plunge and book.  As Sue says the hardest part is booking, once you've done that the rest is easy. I've been on 2 JY holidays and have 2 booked more for this year, it's so easy, everything is taken care of for you. As soon as you get to the airport just look for your airline's check in area and you'll find a JY rep and it's all plain sailing for then on.

I was very scared before my first trip last June, but people on this forum gave me a lot of support and encouragement. I hadn't flown for about 20 years and had never flown further than Spain, nor flown alone.  I'm so glad that I was brave enough to do my first trip (Tuscany) because last November I was brave enough to take my first long haul flight to the Mekong and it was the experience of a lifetime.

You will meet lots of love minded people, I still keep in touch with people from both trips and I'd be happy to bump into any of them on another.

Just be warned - it's addictive!!

Happy travels

Rose

Hi Rose

Thank you so much for your reply.  You have done so well booking two holidays you really must have enjoyed them both.  I bet you felt really proud and a its a big achievement travelling on your own.  They are both such beautiful countries to visit.  Yes you and Sue are right it is building the courage and taking the first step.  You have made me feel a lot more confident especially knowing a rep will be there at the airport.  I would be ok going from Newcastle airport but a bit nervous at the destination airport.  It sounds great you are looked after and will not have anything to worry about.

The community seem such nice people and very sincere in their advice and encouragement.

I will be thinking seriously now about booking!

Thank you again Rose your kind words are much appreciated.

Two holidays for you to look forward to enjoy  🙂

Hi Paul

Thank you for your reply and I really appreciate your positive comments.  Yes I agree it is nice to go to a place you  have always wanted to visit.  I have never been to Andalucía and surrounding towns it looks lovely.  I think this will be my first choice. Its great knowing JY reps look after you especially when its your first solo holiday.

You are going to some great places and seem pretty hooked on the solo travelling!!!  🙂 Hope you enjoy your Tuscany trip.

It does help hearing from the JY Community they give good advice on all the concerns you have.

Thanks again Paul.

Hi Sue

Thank you for your reply.  Its great hearing so many positive comments on JY holidays.  I was a bit nervous but with reading all the great feedback it is making me feel more confident.  You must have enjoyed your holiday if you are booking an even longer one this year!  The Community seem really nice people which helps you take that first step on your decision.

Have a great holiday in May.  🙂

Thanks again I really appreciate your advice.

Hi Caroline

I have done 12 holidays with JY since I plucked up the courage to go for it and seen some amazing places. Andalucia was my second one and a good choice I think for a first break.  it is not too far away, not too unfamiliar and the itinerary is fairly full if you do all the excursions.  Mijas is a beautiful town to wander around in your spare time - don't miss the chocolate factory.  Go for it - all you have to lose if you don't like it is a couple of weeks of your life and some money.  If you love it as I suspect you will the world will be open to you with lots of new friends to meet.

Good luck

Chris

Hello Caroline - and this is my first attempt at replying!  I too am new to JY and I have just booked an 8 day holiday in the Costa de la Luz area of Spain - in September.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful by providing feedback but I hope we both find what we're looking for and that we enjoy the 'single' experience.  I am 'cheating' in that I shall be travelling with a fellow widow but we are both using the experience as a tester for future solo travel.  I wish you every success!   And having read your other replies I am feeling very optimistic!

Hi Chris

Thank you for your reply.  You are so lucky having visited so many amazing places.  I think Andalucía does look lovely and probably good for my first time JY holiday.  Mijas does look really nice and I will visit the Chocolate factory 🙂 .  It will be good to meet new friends and do the excursions which look really good.

I am just deciding on a date in September so hopefully will book soon.  Enjoy your trip if you have one booked.

Thank you again you have been really helpful.

Don't worry about the arrival airport Caroline. As soon as you've claimed your case just head out and you'll see a JY rep waiting for you in arrivals.  But the other reps are very helpful, as soon as I walked out at Pisa on my first trip a Saga rep pointed me in the direction of the JY lady (I didn't ask, he just did it) so you really will be looked after.

Yes I do feel as if I've achieved something, it took courage to do it but it's opened the world to me and I've made real friends too. My first trip was Tuscany, the second was the Mekong River Cruise from Cambodia to Vietnam, I'd never flown long haul before but JY gave me the confidence to do it and I'm so glad that I did, it was the most amazing trip ever. One of the ladies who was in that trip has sent us all an email to say the trip (in reverse) is being featured on TV with Jayne Macdoonald on Friday at 9pm.

And, yes, now I have 2 more holidays to look forward to but if I hadn't found JY and taken the plunge I'd still be sitting here wishing!

Go on - book!!

Hi Rose

I am nearly there to book!! Just deciding on the date for September.  I feel much more at ease knowing about the airport thank you.  That's what I keep thinking if I don't do it now while its in my head Ill back out.  It will be nice to meet new friends like you have.  Hopefully it will encourage me as well to venture to other countries.  Hope you enjoyed watching Jane MacDonald!!

Best wishes
