I have done it!! I have booked on the Spirit of India holiday for 20th November with Amritsar add on. I am already excited about it, although there seems to be so much to organise for a trip to India. This is my first time. Does anyone have any tips /advice?

Good for you Celia! I did this tour in 2012 but unfortunately the Amritsar add-on wasn't available then as I would have done it like a shot!  This is a great tour, very full-on with lots of early starts.  But you will see and do so much!  Northern India is an experience like no other, so go with an open mind.  Expect lots of great and varied experiences but be prepared for the crowds, litter, noise, crazy driving and sometimes unpleasant smells!!  As with any trip abroad, there is the chance of having "holiday tummy" for a day or two, so bring Immodium (the Instants variety which don't need water are very handy) and some hand gel/wipes as the money is very dirty.  Have lots of space on your memory card for your camera as you will take lots of photos.  It will be very hot, so lots of sun cream will be needed (and a sun hat is a good idea) and bring some mosquito repellent although they weren't a problem when I was there in March 2012.  Any other questions, please ask!

Cheers,

Bob

Did a similar trip with Travelsphere last November and it may be helpful if you go into Reviews and type in Beyond the Golden Triangle (TS) 10th Nov.

An excellent holiday.

Regards,

Roger

Good for you Celia.

I agree with everything Bob has said. I did the tour in 2016, but without the add on.

Had an absolutely fantastic time. As Bob says be prepared for some early starts and some long journeys, but it is totally worth it. Of course when anyone says India, most people thing of the Taj Mahal, however my most awesome time was at Varanasi. Magical. Something never to be forgotten.

Have a wonderful time .

Hi Celia

Did this tour in 2016 too, agree with everything others have said, you won't be disappointed and Varanassi is definetly the highlight, very fond memories

Good for you Celia, you wont regret it. I did this trip in November 2014 (without the add-on) and it was truly memorable. A lot of early starts but SO worth it. The weather then was warm without being too hot but fleeces/cardis were needed for the early starts but soon discarded. Agree about the 'holiday tummy', take some immodium or similar with you. I had it for about 24 hours but it didn't spoil anything, just fasted for 24hrs with plenty of water & it was over, some people on the tour didn't suffer at all. Varanassi was a highlight as was the Taj Mahal but the highpoint for me was seeing a Tiger on two of our game drives at Ranthambore (which brought tears to my eyes). Hope you have a wonderful time!
