Hi All

I am celebrating a special birthday next year and am trying to work out a really great and memorable holiday to do. I've done the JY NZ tour before and have seen Travelsphere have a Grand tour of Australia with a bit of a different NZ add on which appeals.

Has anyone got any views on being a single traveller on a Travelsphere holiday? Good idea? Bad idea?

I might change my mind once the new JY brochure comes out!

Hi Sylvia, I did TS Chile, Argentina and Brazil a couple of years ago although I did go with a friend! I wrote a review of it, so if you scroll down a couple of pages in the Reviews section you'll come across my comments. Also AbbaDave did Peru with TS last year and wrote a great review of his tour. I'll be going with TS to do the Balkan Peninsula tour in Sept and will write a review when I get back. I know a good few people who've done TS tours by themselves and generally have got on fine - on most there is usually a couple of solo travellers and many of the couples are friendly! You could always ask Julia if there are any singles booked on any tours you're interested in before you book!

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Sylvia

I am on the San Francisco to Vancouver with Travelsphere, because it is not on JY.

When I paid the balance earlier in the year,I was told there were several other single travellers on the tour.it was a trip I wanted to do and had seen a positive previous review on JY.I had booked about a year ahead.

When I have been to Oregon and Washington,I will have been in 37 states, like you I am looking forward to the new brochure as Alaska was hinted at by Will when new tours were suggested.

Hi Sylvia,

I have done 3 holidays with Travelsphere as a single traveller (Japan, China and India) with another 2 holidays booked (where I will also be a single traveller). I think Travelsphere allow up to several singles on their tours (in Japan, there were 9 single travellers), so the chances are you won't be the only single traveller. You will get couples on these tours who don't want to mix, but my experience has been that most do want to integrate and get to know their fellow travellers.

I think it works both ways - the larger the group, the more likely you are to find someone else who is also travelling alone. With smaller groups, I have found that everyone tends to mingle more.

I did the NZ holiday with JY in 2013, following on from doing JY's 3 week tour in Australia. I personally wouldn't do NZ again, but I would definitely do Australia again. JY's 3 week Australia tour was incredible (my favourite holiday ever), but Travelsphere's Grand Tour is even better. I would definitely put your name down for that if I were you.

Hope you have a great birthday whatever you do.

John.

Hi Sylvia, I'm in the same situation as you (minus a pending big birthday). I've also identified the TS Grand tour of Australia as something I'd really like to do (the standard JY Australia tour seems to fall short in comparison) and am also nervous about being a single traveller on a TS holiday. So am interested to read the comments. But I think I had already decided that I'm just going to have to go for it, maybe next year or the year after if I can't do it next year - don't want to have regrets later because I've been too much of a wimp. Bob and John seem to have got on fine, I'm sure there may be some awkwardness sometimes but that can happen anywhere.

Keith, please can you post a review of the TS San Francisco to Vancouver trip when you're back - this is another on my - very long - wish list. I do have this on my list of possible tours to do in October this year (was hoping to do the JY trip including Laos this year but so many of the dates have been removed and I haven't been able to get the remaining dates to work for me). Agree, hope the new brochure has Alaska. My next US trip is the JY Historic East trip in June, and will be doing the walking in the Cote d'Azur trip at the end of this month.

A question for anyone who has been with Travelsphere as a single.... Did you have a full sized room as with JY or were you in a smaller one - bedded room?

Hi Sarah, I went as a single traveller, as did my friend, and we both had full size double rooms just like on a JY holiday. I would say the only time you might get a small single room would be on a TS Europe holiday, as some European hotels still allocate single rooms to single travellers!

Hope this helps,

Bob

Hi Sylvia

celebrate your special birthday in style and go for Travelspheres grand 30 day tour, I was on the same tour OZ with AltyJohn though I didn't do NZ and he is true to his word saying it was the best holiday ever and we had a truly memorable experience in some great company, Peru was also great, you will always get some singles with Travelsphere, we had 8 single travellers on TS's Peru tour, most couples will mix too

Hi Sarah

yes all rooms are BIG in size and I have yet to find myself in a single bedded room, usually two single or two double beds we have had with Travelsphere same as with JY, most rooms nowadays are set to accommodate at least two adults, hope this answers your question

regards

Dave

I did Peru last year with TS as a solo and got on absolutely fine. I got the same standard of room as the couples ☺

Hi All

Thanks for your replies. I'm more or less decided to go with Travelsphere, but still undecided about any add ons! Think I'll probably decide once the new JY brochure arrives.

Regards

Sylvia
