Hi everyone. This is my first Just You holiday and I was wondering what sort of clothes to take. Obviously the weather can be different year by year but I would appreciate any guidance from anyone who has already done this tour.

Many thanks

Hello Jan,

If you are going whale watching, warm waterproof clothing as it can get very cold. Boston is beautiful but cold again on the waterfront. Too late I think for Fenway Park and the Red Sox as I think their last home game is on 28th September :(

Went there in May 2011 and loved it. Follow the thread from Cindy (Nixon) as I believe she is on this trip.

hello Jan

I did Boston and New England with JY in Sept 2006 and I am re doing this plus Canada and New York add on leaving 6 days before you...

I go for layers, so you can take off or out on according to the weather, it should be warm in the day but might be cooler first thing and in the evening. there is NO need to dress up, smart casual and comfy is the way to go...I will be taking a fleece, anorak, scarf and gloves as well. I don't like to be cold out walking around, and I hope to fit in whale watching in Boston. This will be a great tour I am sure...if you have any other questions please just ask..this will be my 10 the tour and I have 11th booked for next year...

I have my Esta in front of me from when I traveller to Florida in 2013 which is valid till April 2015.

The city is blank so Is the carrier information etc..

Mine is filled in up to and including Passport Issuance Date and Expiration Date.

Sorry if that's not much help. Perhaps ring the JY office they might be able to guide you more. I leave this sort of thing to JY to do on my behalf? Might have to pay a little more but if there's a mistake it's not MINE! I hope you sort it out. Good Luck

I too have my Esta from Florida last year so I am covered. You said about Heathrow, technically that is London. If you are going from Canada into the US then I would definitely ask Just You :P

For this tour I am doing in September, I am also doing the few days add on in NYC, I have ordered £1000.00 in USD and £600.00 in CAD I know it sounds so much money..

Quite often you find the rep has another one or two extra excursions on offer, also so much money goes on eating!!!...

I have booked online and paid for 9/11 museum and also ferry and entry to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty, I am also trying to work out booking this end for whale watching while in Boston.

Normally I do come home with SOME!!! Money. I do take a credit card and also a debit card with me, but they are not used unless I have to.

Hello All,

I rely on $100 a day and with a debit and credit card as back up only if needed. Always tell my bank as well. Using my debit card in Buenos Aires, I was surprised to see 'Good morning Mrs ****' come up on the screen. Always pay my optional excursions before the trip and usually carry any money over to the next day. I take £200 in sterling, normally bring it home :)

What Janib says is the same as I tend to budget for America but it can vary significantly. Some manage on much less but i like to sample the local nightlife especially if I can find some live music. Some people understandably get very tired on touring holidays and tend to head to their rooms after evening meal.

Also varies on how many souveniers/presents you intend to buy,i don't so much nowadays. Don't forget to allow for tips for your tour manager and bus driver.

Breakfasts are included on the trips i've done and this is an approx breakdown :-

Lunch/coffee/ice creams etc - $20 (£13)

Evening Meal - $35 ok i have a pudding (£21)

Cover Charge - $10 (for live music) (£7)

Drinks - $25 (£16)

That totals $85 so leaves $10 for variations in costs and souveniers (eg evening meal depends where you eat much the same as over here).

Also don't forget it includes tips (15 to 20%).

Often don't spend the amounts stated but its what i allow, you never know and always have the credit and debit card as back up.

Hi Jan

I did this holiday last September. We had lovely warm weather but I advise you to pack layers as it warmed up through the day. Also the group following a few days behind us had a lot of rain, so take a raincoat. I found packing difficult, having to cater for all weathers and in the end I bought a series of vacuum packing bags which were invaluable. Not only could I separate out trousers, T shirts, sweaters etc but it also meant I could get more into the case. At least with it being America you don't need to take anything dressy!!

Just watch your weight doesn't go over the 23kg. I took a friend to Heathrow this summer who was flying back to the US on BA and she ended up paying £80 for overweight baggage of 32kg!

I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
