hi it says on some of the holiday destinations HOTELS WILL BE CONFIRMED IN FINAL DOCUMENTS? im a bit concerned about this, does it mean they can change or downgrade us at a moments notice or when its too late and final documents are due? ive read a couple of negative reviews on trip advisor concerning this, where a couple of people were not happy with their change of accommodation, I would hate that as once I know where im staying I look it all up on trip advisor and get very excited! I would hate for my dream to be shattered, has anyone ever experienced this? I hope not

Hi Crystalbling55,

We endeavour to operate our holidays as advertsied however, there are times when we have to change a hotel. For example the hotel is no longer to accommodate the group on a particluar date or that feedback that we have received from recent departures has suggested that the hotel is no longer up to standard. On the occassions when we have to change the hotel it will always be of an equal or higher star rating.

I'm sure some of our members will share their experiences with you.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Crystal,

I'm now into double figures with JY holidays with a few of them touring holidays so stayed in plenty of hotels. Can only once remember a hotel changing from advertised and when we past the origional hotel you could see why (was a little run down).

I have travelled with JY since 2006, I will be doing my 10th tour this year with 11th booked. I tend to go for the full on tours so that can mean many hotels during the holiday ie NZ and some of the US tours, on a tour for me the hotels can be so different you could be in a USA motel, one night and then a very high standard posh hotel another night. What I can say is they have all been very clean room/linen, in one room I actually had 2 double bed and a single!. As I go on the full on tours, it's the tour that interests me, the room is not so important I have been on tours where people have changed rooms for one thing or another, I just think I am only here 1-2 nights so it's fine, Like you I do look at the hotels that are in the final documents, normally to check on safes, hair dryer, iron. I don't go by what people say on say trip advisor etc. I go with an open mind and make my own mind up. If it's be particularly bad then I would of course contact JY to let them know my thoughts.

If you have a particular holiday in mind I suggest you do a posting and ask if anybody has been on that tour and ask their thoughts on the hotels etc. It might help you make a decision. many of us on here have travelled far and wide so pick our brains if it helps.

If you have any questions just ask, we will try and answer you.

They changed our hotel in Moniga after we complained about it ( Lake Garda 2011) Too far out of town and same menu. Not sure where they are now staying, but all hotels not up to scratch are replaced. For Petra we stayed in a cave- very different :P

Don't worry too much about that, it's just standard blurb that all holiday companies use in their T&C's to cover themselves for any eventualities, it's rare for advertised hotels to be changed at the last moment.

but, if they did change and the new hotel is not up to scratch, don't be English and suffer in slience! complain to the tour manager/rep, if they don't resolve your complaint get straight onto Head Office, don't wait until you've come home!

Also, social media is a powerful tool nowadays, if you post your experiences online, twitter, facebook etc and they are not good, you'll be amazed at quickly problems can suddenly be resolved!

Knowing and experiencing how good Just You are at resolving problems, I'm confident this advice will appear!

Enjoy your holiday, thats the main thing to think about!

Hi Crystalbling55,

I've been on 4 JY holidays with my 5th booked this coming October. I've only ever had one hotel changed from that originally specified, which was in Jordan earlier this year. A group of Jordanian government officials decided to extend their stay in the Petra hotel we were due to stay at so we were moved out!

Obviously there was very little that JY could do about that and, although we were accommodated in a hotel some way out of town (the original hotel was in the town close to the entrance to the Petra visitor centre), the hotel itself was fine....nice views over the hills, clean, quaint rooms, decent choice at breakfast and dinner.

As Julia has said, JY don't usually change hotels from those advertised unless something happens outside of their control (as in Jordan) or if recent feedback suggests that a specific hotel is no longer up to standard.

For example, JY have recently changed the lodge accommodation on the Amazon extension for the Peru holiday as a result of recent feedback.

Hope this addresses your concerns

Mike

Hi I've stayed in around 50 hotels on JY tours and never had a hotel changed so don't worry about it! Hope you have a great holiday.

Best wishes,

Bob

Did the "Amazing Australia" trip a couple of years ago and the one advertised by JY in Alice Springs changed due to refurbishment of the hotel. The hotel JY changed to ( Crown Plaza) was next door to the original one. Must say considered more upmarked and luxurious than the original, so cannot complain at all.

I would just like to add one comment to all those above. I personally do not take much notice of the reviews - in fact I hardly read them or research the hotels beforehand. I only looked up the hotels for the Italy and Croatia trip and this was the first for me. I usually take all in my stride and have not been too disappointed yet. The hotel in Jerusalem - can't remember the name but it may be the Leonardo - was a bit tatty, and not sure how my room was flooded (the carpets were all soggy and drenched) as there were no leaks! I only noticed because I stepped on the carpet without my slippers in error. I guess if one travels a lot then there is going to be an occasion when you will land up in not so nice hotel. Best not to worry too much.
