Hi all,

I'm new to this site but not singles holidays. I've done loads of Solo's, sorry, singles holidays in the last few years :-)

I am considering one of the USA tours next year, possibly Texas and New Orleans, and was wondering what the group size is usually like for this type of tour. I know some companies cancel holidays if a minimum number is not achieved, and sometimes without too much notice.

Singles holidays are not cheap any more (were they ever?!) are the holidays in the JY Brochure good value (in general) or are they expensive for what you get, like many other companies?

Thanks

Barry

Hi Barry,

Well yes Singles Holidays are expensive but i find especially with the touring holidays you work out the maths its quite good value and a great way to travel.

As for group size I've done 4 touring hols in America (along with a few european breaks) and the smallest group was 18 while the largest is 45. Would imaging that 18 will be about as small as it gets considering there is a coach/driver and a big mileage to pay for.

Its my opinion that JY & Solos are the top two companies for us single travellers and would add JY is probably best for tours while Solos would be tops for activity hols.

Barry welcome to you,

I have my 10th JY tour booked for 2014 ..that will be my 5th JY tour to USA....the USA tours can have a larger group due to demand, the Florida tour I was in in may there were 40 of us which can be normal, this means there are plenty of people to talk to. I have not been in the tour that you are interested in. Yes tours can be cancelled if numbers are not met, I have never had a USA tour cancelled in fact the only one that was, was to Australia. You are normally informed I think just before final payment. You can always ring the office or post in the editors board and they will tell you how the bookings and male female ratio age range that sort of thing are going. I have been using JY since 2006 as you say single holidays are NOT cheap, this head I have really research JY with other single tour companies and yet again I am booking with JY for 2014. It personally think you do get a great tour for your money. most USA tours have breakfast included and perhaps 2-3 meals as well. There are normally a few full and half days tours included and entrances paid for along the way. So when you work all that into the price I think it's fair. there will always be extras you can do if you wish.

For me JY is a very safe way for me to travel, I am head counted along the way so someone will know if I am missing!!!!. people do mix in really well, ladies out way the men on all the tours I have been on, young and older ages mix well. Great sights to see and fun to be had along the way..

if I can help with anything else just ask.

Hi Barry

I have been on a few JY holidays and all of them have been excellent, on the face of it they do seem

expensive but most hotels are 4/5 star, tours are included + tour managers local guides and bus to and

from hotels etc, so I would say yes value for money.

Remember the saying you get what you pay for.

Dave.

Welcome to JY Barry,

Yes, it is expensive to travel alone but if, as other posts suggested, you take into account single supplements, included tours and the 4/5 star hotels I think you will find it good value for money.

I've been on 9 JY holidays so far and enjoyed every single one.

I must admit I've never used any other singles holiday company but I have made comparisons and, in my opinion, JY stands head and shoulders above the others.

The group you travel with will become friends by the end of your holiday and you will see some amazing sights along the way.

Take the plunge, book your holiday and enjoy.

Good luck.

Denise

Thanks everyone.

I've been away with Solo's 10 times in the last 4 years and every holiday I've been on with them has been great, and I've made lifelong friends. They are getting so expensive now though. Some of the prices are eye watering. Looking at the brochures, I think JY is similar priced for beach holidays but possibly a bit cheaper for tours.

Very surprised at the size of the groups I have to say. I have been in groups of up to 40 with Solo's, but the last group to Turkey in September this year was only 14. And let's just say some of them weren't too talkative!!

I know there are other singles operators that are much cheaper than Solo's and JY (one in particular) bit it does make me suspicious

Hi Barry

I'll be going on my 3rd JY holiday at Christmas but like you I have enjoyed many holidays with Solo. In fact I think I met you around 2009 on an organised walk when I was staying in Bellapais and you were probably at Oscars. I think both companies are great but JY have the edge when it comes to tours. They include more in the basic price than Solo so overall better value and they are very well organised. In my experience so far the JY groups have been larger.

Hope this helps a bit

Hi Sue,

I was indeed in North Cyprus in 2009. My first Solo's holiday!

I did the walking week first staying at The Olive Tree in Catalkoy, we then dropped down into Kyrenia (Oscars) the second week. Enjoyed it so much I did the same holiday the following year. I'm sure if I saw you I would remember you and I still keep in touch with people from that first holiday.

I'm really torn in two minds for next year. I really want to do the US, but the New York City visit is not long enough, the other tour taking in New York is too expensive, because I know I'll also want at least one week in the sun later in the year, hence why I'm looking at Texas and New Orleans. Plus, I really want to go to Dallas to see where JFK was shot.

Oh, decisions, decisions!!

How about doing the NYC city tour but stay on a couple extra days and do your own thing..you can do this just talk to the office....I have been on tours where people do all the tour but want to explore a little bit more on there own and it does work well. Just a suggestion.

Hi Cindy,

Yes, good point. I think another couple of nights would probably do it for me. 3 nights doesn't seen very long. Do people tend to book fairly early with JY? I know with Solo's bookings are tending to become later and later. I went to Lanzarote in early January last year and up to a couple of weeks before hardly anyone had booked, but there ended up being 30 odd of us! All booked at the last minute!

Hi Barry

As others have said, welcome to the world of ‘Just You’.

Please read my review for Texas & New Orleans on page 1. One US tour I can recommend is the National Parks, again read the reviews. I think everyone who has been on this tour have been overwhelmed by some of the scenery as opposed to Texas which is mainly flat and uninteresting. The big plus is New Orleans but alas not enough time is given to fully appreciate this city. In May this tour had 21 people of various ages from 33 upwards with 2/3rds female and 1/3rd male. The small group I was with were the best!!!!!

Enjoy your Just You travels

Hi Barry

My advice is to book early with Just You as some tours do get fully booked and if you leave it to the last minute then you will be disappointed.
