Fran hello and welcome to the JY community website.
I think some of the different styles of tours attract different people so maybe there were more couple groups on the discovery weekend, I might be wrong I have never been in one, my very first tour was to the USA I did in fact travel with my mother in law, I have my 10th tour booked for 2014. Can I just say that the majority of people you will find on a tour are travelling on their own, YES you will find that there could be two or three friends travelling together. I travel on my own but I have also travelled with people from previouse tours I have been on and enjoyed being with them. For me this is a fantastic bonus to meet a friend who you can then travel again with, you might say why then if your travelling with a friend go with JY the answer is simple, I really like the format of a JY tour, and even if I travel with a JY friend we do not just stay together all day every day we spread ourselves around. The last tour I was on which was Florida in May there were 39 people I would say there were 4 of us travelling with friends so 31 were solo travellers.
You are not a wimp by any means and it is hard to travel alone but that's just it once you get to where ever you are going you Are NOT alone you are in a group,of people, some you will like others you will perhaps not but that's life and I just think it's only say 2 weeks I can rub along with most people for that time. So many people are nervouse etc if you have a look at the many postings on here people say once they have done 1 tour they can't wait to book another. All I can say is go for it, I have not been on either of the tours you are looking at, you will have a great time and many laughs along the way,
if I can help with anything else just ask.
Cindy
Afternoon Fran and welcome.
I quite agree with Cindy's comments. You could find that, on whichever tour you choose, there are some singles and some not singles. However, during any of the 10 JY tours I've been on (USA and Europe) I've always found that almost everyone mingles.
There will be different age groups, a cross-section of society and the majority are always very welcoming and you will make many friends by the end of the trip.
The thing about JY is it's a very safe way to travel, you are looked after from beginning to end. You can be part of the group, or if you want some alone time there are always opportunities for that.
Please don't let your experience at your weekend put you off booking your next trip. Just decide where you want to go, make the reservation and have a great time.
By the time you return, you will be perusing the brochure and deciding where your next trip will be.
Good luck, go for it and happy travelling!!
Denise
