Hi Wendy

I'm going to Peru in November. I'm getting totally confused by the different recommendations for immunisations! Was wondering if you have had any?

Yellow Fever seems to be mentioned a few times but it costs a fortune!!!

Hi both

I went to Peru last October and was also confused about whether or not I needed the Yellow Fever inoculation, in the end I didn't have it as I was not going on to the Amazon. Enjoy the holiday it's a wonderful experience.

Yve.

Hi Cathy,

All I can say is that I consulted the pharmacist in My local Boots and she checked her records and said that Yellow Fever vaccine and Malaria treatment were not needed, but she did recommend an insect repellent containing DEET. I Go to Peru on the !st Oct will post how I got on

,am feeling a little apprehensive as ti is my first singles trip. Wendy L

I returned from Peru/Amazon add on a couple of weeks ago, Yellow Fever appears to be a "must", expensive but good for a long time (10 years I think), also Mosquito tabs if going to the Amazon (again can be expensive but better than the resulting fever(s) etc. if you get bitten).

Around £100 for injections and Mosi tabs isn't much compared to the cost of the overall holiday. I wouldn't recommend you skip anything, pointless coming back ill when you have spent so much to get there, and to spoil your holiday whilst you are there worrying that you might get bitten!

Hi Wendy

Thanks for the advise. Going by comments made by previous Peru trippers it sounds like you'll have a great time! Cant wait to hear your comments. It will be my first solo trip abroad too.

Enjoy!!

Hi Barry

Thanks for the advise.

Can you give me some idea on how much money to take for the meals? Also did you take it in Peru currency or US dollars?

Hope you had a great time there-I cant wait to go!!

Hi Wendy,

Yes, I'm going to Peru on the 1st October from Birmingham. It's my first trip too, and as its getting closer I'm beginning to get nervous!

I’m also doing the Amazon add on, and because I’m doing this part of the trip my travel nurse said that I needed the Yellow Fever vaccine and Malaria tablets.

Hopefully bump into you at the airport. I was told there are 5 of us travelling from Birmingham, so I will make sure my Just You luggage labels are visible so I can be spotted.
