Hello everyone,

This will be my second Just You trip and I'm so excited, it's getting closer now so I would love tips and advice from anyone who has done the China trip. For example, the best way to take money and how much, does anyone know what the Autumn weather will be like, hints about useful things to pack. Most sites say there are various electrical plug points in most hotels but how reliable is that? Is it safest to take a universal plug adaptor? Are there tea making facilities in the hotel rooms?

Well that's enough questions, thank you for reading this and please get in touch if you have any tips.

Kindest regards

Gillian

PS. Is anyone else doing this trip?

You will have a fab time, I went on this trip in may. Personally I took cash and a credit card just in case. I took roughly £500 and came back with £150ish. There is a lot of tipping (local guide, driver and tour rep), lots of souvenirs to buy-leave a little space in your suitcase for extra weight! Always remember to haggle for souvenirs. There are extra trips on the cruise but you can use a card to pay if you've run out!

Not sure about the weather question -I'd have a look at the Internet.

There were tea facilities in the rooms however sometimes there was only green tea/ jasmine tea.

I took a universal travel adapter with me. Most of the hotels had a normal English plug but one or two didn't.

I wrote a review of this trip and posted it in the review section-have a look and any other questions just ask away.

Hi Gillian,

I did this trip in May and have put quite a few posts on the site since returning on a variety of topics concerning the trip. If you do a search relating to my threads hopefully they will answer some of your questions!! PaulineD

Hi Gillian, I'm going on this trip on 7th August and if I can answer any queries you may have on my return feel free to ask. I've ordered some Chinese currency and found ordering it online was the cheapest - Asda or Tesco. In addition I'm taking English money to change if necessary and also taking my credit card. I've bought an adaptor to take with me which I got online but from what I can see in my travel info all the hotels have hairdyers. I'm not sure what the weather will be like but I've packed a light rain jacket just in case and a small brolly. If I get any good tips while I'm there I'll post them on my return. Regards, Marie

Hi Gillian

Just noticed your post and thought I would say hello as I'm also on the 23rd October trip with Yangtze add-on so looking forward to meeting you. I've also been thinking about how much money to take and what clothes to pack. I've decided about £600 in Chinese currency and some English will be OK. As for clothes I'm taking things that can be layered so will be covered for all weathers.

See you on the 23rd

Hello Cathy,

Sorry about the late reply, I haven't logged in for a while.

I'm really pleased to hear from you. It's only 6 weeks and 2 days until we are off to China, I'm starting to think about what to take and like you I think layers are the right thing. Have you seen the posting from MarieW

she gives some very good information and advice.

Looking forward to seeing you in October,

Kind regards

Gillian

Hi Gillian

Yes I have seen MarieW's info and some really good tips. The weeks seem to be speeding past now and we'll soon be on that plane. See you at the airport, I assume you will be going into the lounge to meet up before the flight.
