Hi everyone,

My name is Lianne and I'm 32 years old. Im single and my friends aren't available to travel for one reason or another but I really want an adventure. The idea of going away on my own is new to me and makes me very nervous. I've been looking at the Canadian Rockies tour, which looks amazing! I really would like to travel but am apprehensive. What are the age ranges on this holiday and would I fit in ok? I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance and encouragement to take he leap to actually book it!! Thank you,

Lianne

Hi Lianne and welcome to the JY forum.

Don't be nervous. I haven't done the Canadian Rockies tour, but I have found age ranges have been early 20's to late 70's, average age being 40's plus. But don't let this put you off as age is just a number. Women tend to outnumber the men. Group sizes, smallest I've been on is 16 and largest 40. If this tour appeals to you then I'd say go for it

Hi Lianne, welcome to JY! I agree with all that Anna has said; I'm hoping to do this tour in two years and it really does sound fantastic. I'm sure you would have a wonderful time and bring back lots of great photos and memories - the scenery will be breathtaking! JY tours are always well run and you won't have to worry about a thing. Don't worry either about probably being the youngest - I'm now 43 (was 40 when I started travelling with JY) and so have always been one of the youngest - and have always found some fun and decent people to go around with - usually in their 50s or 60s! So age really does not matter one bit and please do take the plunge, I'm sure you won't regret it!

Hi Lianne

I agree with Anna. I have just come back from my first "single" holiday and i cant wait to book my next one. My trip also had a wide age range and every one got on well. My group was 35 people, 6 of them men. I will still go on holiday with my friends but i enjoyed the freedom a Just Holiday gave me to do what I wanted. But for those who are nervous of traveling alone then there is the tour manager who can help with local info etc.

Don't be nervous you'll fit in no problem JY travellers are a friendly lot.

On the age question I suspect you would be at the younger end (possibly the youngest on the tour) but don't let that put you off, different ages do mix well on these trips.

There is a post on the Age question in the "share travellers tips part of the forum". Here is the link :-

Hello

Totally understand your concerns because I'm sure the majority of us all felt the same before booking our first JY trip - I certainly did! I went on this holiday last year and it really was amazing, some of the scenery and experiences were truly breathtaking. Based on that trip and the 2 others I've done the majority of travellers are 50+ and, as Anna says above, women tend to outnumber the men. My group sizes have always been between 20-30. Don't be put off by the age difference as it really isn't an issue (I'm in my 40s), I've always found my fellow travellers to be a friendly bunch! If you are open to meeting new people and consider yourself an "approachable" kind of person you'll be fine. Don't forget everyone else on your holiday is travelling on their own too, and based upon my trips I'd suggest the chances are you won't be the only one whose holidaying solo for the first time within your group. Take a deep breath and book it - you won't regret it!

Hope this helps,

Michael.

Hello and welcome Lianne

All I would like to add is just take the plunge and book the holiday. I can assure you that you will have no regrets. Travelling with Just You is safe and you do not have to worry about anything at all as everything is taken care of. Age is just a number so do not let that put you off. You will meet people of all ages and have a wonderful time. Life is too short to worry about little things like age!

Thank you all for your lovely replies. I definitely have food for thougt. I am so eager to travel but still can't shake this fear I have of travelling alone. I do mix well with people of all ages and i think i am friendly and approachable. I might just have to take the bull by the horns and book and stop worrying!!

Many thanks, Lianne

Book it! 🙂

The age range of my first trip was 24 to 82. I was the second youngest at 41. We gelled really well and had a fantastic time. Have just booked another one for Christmas.

Hi Lianne

You will not be travelling alone as you will meet your fellow travellers at the airport. As you say, take the bull by the horns and just book. You will have no regrets. Of course, taking the first step is not always easy. When I first decided to travel on my own, I went ahead and booked my first trip to Jordan as soon as I came across Just You website because I knew that if I thought too much, I would never do it. You can't really back out once you have booked the trip! Happy travelling.

Hello Lianne,

Agree with everything that's been said. I've booked the Canadian Rockies tour for 10 September this year and am really looking forward to it, it sounds fantastic!

If you want to know age range etc for a particular tour, click into the ask the editor section and post a message. I checked last month for the 10 September trip and at that time, there were 26 booked on the trip, 22 female/4 male with an age range between early 30s to mid 70s.

Hope you decide to take the plunge!

Kind regards

Ann

Hi Leanne,

I am 26 and i started using JY when i was 21 years old. My first trip was to Paris. I agree with everyone else. Essentially you are all going on holiday to enjoy yourself and your age, gender ect doesnt become a problem. If you have a look at the 'Important Thread' you will see the thoughts of Dave, a JY customer who had the same apprehensions.

Take the plunge, you'll love it!
