Hi Voni

I'm booked on the same date (4th Sept) - Flying from Gatwick on CA852

I just sent off all my visa info so it's beginning to get real (I booked last September).

I've also pre-booked the two optional excursions today and plan to book the third one when we reach China.

Really looking forward to this holiday - it's my first time with Just You.

Hi Leah,

Where is the third trip to? We only had 2 optional trips to pay for!! Just curious.

Hi Kevin (sorry about calling you Leah!!),

Xian by night is an extra one that we didn't do. Shang Hai by night and Tang Dynasty are brilliant, don't forget your camera!! Tang Dynasty is combined with the dumpling making which is fun and if you are into ice creams they are on sale before the show but you need to catch the eye of a waitress!!

Have fun

I've just been looking through the latest communications from JustYou and I notice that there is a missing flight.

The one on the 10th September from Xian to Chengdu is missing.

It was on my original booking confirmation, but is missing from the revised breakdown they sent me last week.

Is it just me or is missing for other people too?

Hi,

I've spoken to our team about the missing flight information and I have been informed internal flight information is not included with the paperwork sent out at this time, but don't worry - the internal flight info will be included in your final documents.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Leah,

I look forward to meeting you. I have only just come back from a cruise to Norway so have only just got around to logging on. I'm excited about this trip. Have you sorted your immunisations yet? I have an appointment for mine on 31st July. I have also booked the prebookable trips and will probably also do the extra one.

Hi lita,

I am coming from Hampshire. I went to Turkey with Just You last year and found everyone very friendly so I'm sure it will be fine. I Have actually booked this time as it will be the second anniversary of my husbands death on the 5th September and I figured it would be good to be away. I can't think of anything more involved as I have never attempted anything like this before. I see that there are at least 3 of us going so will be good to meet up.

Hi Voni,

Have just returned from an absolutely amazing time in China!!

There is so much to say that I really don't know where to start. Yes, it is a very busy holiday with a lot packed in and a lot of early starts but you can appreciate that when you have been to the attractions and you see hordes of people coming towards you just starting out!!

The one thing that was really bothering me was the toilet situation but I needn't have worried!!!!!! There were usually a couple of western toilets in each location and most times toiler paper as well!!!! It is still a good idea to take your own and a certain major store beginning with T stocks flat packed loo paper!!

All the hotels are very good and the food is amazing. The only disappointment on the food front was the hotpot evening in cheng du. We had cooking pots in front of us and raw food on the table which we had to put into the pot to cook. I don't think I am alone in saying that most of us came out of there hungry!!

I think I will sign off for now as I will be rambling on forever but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns or worries no matter how trivial I will be happy to help in anyway.

PaulineD

Thanks for the info PaulineD it sounds like you had a fantastic time and I can hardly wait. Do you have any advice on what clothes to take?

Hi Voni,

I'm not sure what the weather is like in September and our weather wasn't particularly brilliant. We had sunshine and warmth in Beijing but from then on it gradually went downhill being overcast (but not cold) in Xian and Chengdu and it drizzled with rain most of the time in Shang Hai. I invested in some Trousers with zips in the legs that turned into shorts and found those very useful. Only took a lightweight cagoule which was sufficient and an umbrella which I didn't use!! A lightweight jacket for the evenings but they were quite sultry and that didn't come out of the case. We did get a chance each evening to change for dinner and smart casual seemed to be the order of the day for that one!! Saying that my suitcase felt as though I had a shed load of bricks in it before I started out which didn't leave much room for souveniers etc. but then I'm not a lightweight traveller. I need to pack the kitchen sink plus taps!!!

Hope this helps.

If you want the name of the internet company where I got the trousers from just let me know, they were very good value!!

Hello Lita, Voni and Kevin

My name is Vina and I just booked on this tour too. I was booked to travel to Egypt the day before but that tour has been cancelled and so I transferred onto this one as it was one I had looked at in parallel with Egypt.

Regarding numbers, you have nothing to worry about - there are 35! With me being number 36 and apparently I will be the 'baby' in the group at 41 years - so hope I'm well looked after!

The weather is meant to still be warm/hot - mid 20's in most places with the rains from August dying away. I am quite small so find dresses easer to get and was just planning to wear long dresses with throw overs if it is a little chilly.

I have received no info. about the visa or pre-bookable excursions so will call tomorrow and sort out those things in advance. It was useful to read about clothing, money, food, toilets, etc. One question, may seem daft, but there will be lots of walking and I wondered if comfy sandals are best to take or closed shoes (if raining or muddy in places) - any advice please?

I too am travelling from Hampshire - not sure if I can get a lift from my father or if I will have to look at alternatives. I am not sure if there will be a lounge at the airport to meet - often Just You books lounges for long-hauls so travellers can meet. However, I hope to meet you all soon. I have been on 2 trips before but still feeling a little apprehensive...

Best wishes, vina

Hi Vina,

Alhough it is only 2 months since I was there the memory is fading fast!! (it's an age thing). I'm not sure what the weather is going to be like when you go but as far as I can remember there weren't any particularly muddy paths. Mainly concrete except for the walk/cable car/walk on the Great Wall but I couldn't imagine that being particularly muddy. I took quite heavy walking trainers with me and they didn't see daylight during the holiday!!

I would imagine that if the weather forecast is dry then comfy sandals would suffice.

Hope this helps.

PS,

We had access to an executive lounge for 3 hours before we flew and would imagine it will be the same for you. Lovely food and alcohol on tap and the chance to meet up with fellow travellers before you go.

You will have a brilliant time.

Hi Vina

Glad to have another name to lookout for when we meet up. - I wonder where the other 32 are?

I hope I don't end up too scruffy for the group - I don't think my evening attire will differ much from my daytime attire (apart from maybe swapping shorts for long trousers). I hope to live in my sandals, but will be packing some trainers just in case.

My suit and proper shoes will not be coming on this trip!

Hi Everyone,

Sounds like there will be quite a few of us even if everyone isn't on here. I think most of what I take will be fairly casual, with smart casual for the evening (maybe a skirt as apposed to trousers). I think it will be crops and sandals for me during the day as I hate having my feet enclosed but I'll maybe take a pair of casual shoes (not trainers) just in case I need them. Can't wait to meet you all.

Not long to go now.

I got my Vaccinations this week - a lot less than I had imagined - just 2 injections (+ a booster in 12 months for one of them.)

I've also ordered some currency today - I'll probably need more, but I thought if I did two small orders, I would be less likely to end up with huge denominations.

Just waiting for the final details for the flights to see what the baggage allowance are like and then I'll need to buy a suitable case.

Now I really must get around to reading my "Easy Peasy Chinese - Mandarin Chinese for beginners" book - I've had it for nearly a year!

hi voni and kevin

logged on today after a few days to see your messages.

am looking forward to meeting you both!

i checked and am already vaccinated for everything so that was a relief! will order some travel money in 2 weeks - it doesn't seem like we need much and i plan to put bigger/costly items on card.

as for attire - i think smart casual throughout is the order of the day. i met someone who had been to china a few years back (with just you) and she said sometimes they went straight to dinner due to long days....i agree with the sandals.

i am flying from gatwick so hope to see you in the lounge. by the way, i am indian so should be easy to spot! please do say hi - i always get a little nervous despite doing a few of these hols now.

i need to look up the flight time in terms of length - will be long.....

see you soon and all the best until then, vina
