The editor says that if we are booking for Alcatraz on 13th we should book either after 1pm if we are not going on the bay cruise or after 2.30pm if we are doing the bay cruise.

I have found a site called www.alcatrazcruises.com that offer a 2.5 hour tour for $28 that you can book in advance. The only problem is the only suitable time is 1.55pm so if you were intending doing the bay cruise, you would not be able to do both. (They seem to have a break after the 1.55pm trip so there are no more in the afternoon). I checked a couple of other tour operators, all of which off the same times (but more expensive)

Also - got a TSA lock for my suitcase as in the states your case will be searched and the lock broken if you don't have a TSA lock.

Hi Richard - I know alot of people have mentioned going to Alcatraz and I'm going to wait until I get there before deciding/booking. I don't think there will be a problem getting a place at that late stage. I want to see how it fits in the day - it's hard to imagine!

Meeting in the bar sounds a good idea to me. I'm driving down to Manchester from Stockton-on-Tees and will probably arrive late afternoon. Perhaps nearer the date we can arrange a time to meet?

I posted on here quite a while ago that i was thinking of booking this trip but was nervous. Well i finally overcame the nerves and will be joining you all on 12th!! Really looking forward to it. Have received my itinerary pack, not sure I'll pre book anything except maybe Alcatraz through the company someone mentioned above.

I'm travelling to Heathrow on the Sun - about to book a hotel there to stay overnight. Re what to wear, someone told me it is fairly warm everywhere we are going except San Francisco so I guess I'll just take my whole wardrobe 🙂 The hand luggage allowance is generous so should be ok.
