I am wondering how a JY holiday works, socially. For example does the group eat together in the evenings? I've travelled a lot in the past, but always with other people. Now I am single again at the age of 61. I want to go on holiday but don't know how much I would enjoy it if I had to spend a lot of time on my own.

Hi Sheila,

I've been on about 8 JY holidays and never been on my own. Tables in the restaurants are reserved for JY guests so you all sit together. Some tour reps suggest meeting in the bar for a drink prior to a meal. You'll meet other holiday members at the airport (look for the Just You luggage labels) so you'll know people before you board the aircraft.

Don't worry about your age. I can give you 13 years and I'm going to China in September!!

Book it and enjoy!!

Regards, Pat

Hi Sheila

I would say do not worry about anything at all and just book. When I booked my first trip to Jordan with Just You in 2009, what I did was I just went ahead and booked it before I changed my mind! I always wanted to see Petra so that was a start. Of course, I felt quite nervous travelling on my own, but believe me as soon as you get to the airport you will not feel as if you are on your own. Age does not matter on Just You holidays as everyone gets on and you are very well looked after. You will definitely not regret booking a holiday with Just You. I have been on 2 and am going on my 3rd in May. Am also thinking of booking Israel (Holy Land) later this year.

Regards

Jaya

Seriously you wont have a problem, I've never been alone (except when wanting to be) on a JY holiday, I've done both resort and touring.

As for meal times you'll probably find tables are designated for JY and its a great idea to move around table during the first few meals to get to know more diferent members of your party.

Hi SHeila

I am off on my 8th JY tour to NZ on Wednesday take my word for it they are great fun and fantastic sights to be seen...YOU do NOT have to spend time on your own if you do not want to. Some holidays the meals are set out and you eat together, other style holidays you sort of buddy up and go off in groups to find a place to eat, the REP should make sure your not on your own in a strange place. They normally sort out a few places and give you a choiceof where to go or where to eat, It does depend on what style of holiday you choose, Have a real good read on what is in the brochure it should give you a idea of eating arrangements etc. You will not stay on your own for long as long as you to make an effort to chat to people and join in with the fun you will be fine.

You will not have a problem. Mixed ages really dont matter as everyone is friendly. Breakfast and Dinner are taken together, usually on long tables. You dont have to sit in the same place each time, so you get to meet a lot of people. During the day you can wonder off on your own if you want to or stay with others. Often on a day trip a few might start off together then wonder off to look at whatever interests them but arrange to meet up with others for lunch. It is also amazing how even if you go off on your own or with one other, you keep bumping into others in your group and have a spontaneous coffee. The reps are very good and make sure that everyone gets to know each other. I have been taking these holidays for about five years and hope I will take many more (I am 61 too). going to Lake Como end of May - cant wait. Take the plunge, you wont regret it.

Hi Sheila,

When I first booked with JY, in my early 30s, had never travelled alone, and I was nervous about the same things. But I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The tour rep really looks after everyone, and the groups always sit together for meals. There are opportunities to go out and eat independently, but you could generally find a few people from the group who were also interested in exploring the local eateries with you! I was originally worried as I thought I'd probably be the youngest in the group and wouldn't have much in common with other travellers, but when we all met at the airport on the way out, everyone was so lovely, and we all got on like a house on fire. I think Just You / Travelsphere as a company attract the nicest people, and those people tend to want to socialise with others in the same position.

Now I wouldn't book a holiday with any other company! So I hope you do book, as I think you'll love it!

I am new to JY as well Sheila. I have booked a taster weekend in Bournemouth at the end of March, thought it would be a start to find out if going on holiday on my own would work for me.

Hi Sheila, like you, I am 61 and single, a bit apprehensive about booking a holiday, I would love to go to Italy in June, have you any thoughts where you would like to go and when?
