I'm a 'young '51', but a little shy and so apprehensive about going away and mixing all on my own. I've been on my own for a couple of years now and now need to mix with others.

I was thinking of trying out JY at the New Year Warwick/Hinkley do. Has anyone got any advice? What kind of age ranges might go to this kind of trip?

Alternately, I have questioned the Andulucia trip for NY, but wonder if I ought to try out JY first on a 2/3 day trip to see.. I do mix with all sorts of people and ages, but like most people, it is often easier to mix with similar ages with common interests etc.. Li.

I've not done a short UK break with JY so not sure what age range but assume its similar to the holidays. I'm 53 and done 4 holidays (2 in US and 2 in europe), have had no problem mixing with others, made some good friends that I keep in touch with.

Hello Li,

Welcome this is just my opinion, I would put the money to a real JY holiday, and not bother with a taster 2/3 days..I say this as my first trip was long haul to USA, so I just went for it. Also I have known a couple people who have done discovery weekend to then straight away book a tour and regret spending two lots of money. I of course do understand that you might be feeling a little be scared and want to test the waters, can I suggest you have a look at the to interveiw on here from myself NIXON and ther is one also from LOVELY LESLEY this is about our thoughts on the tours it might help answer some of your qeustions you may have.

The age range is 55-75 with younger and older either side. I am 52 and have been travelling with JY for 5 years. People do tend to buddy up, that can be with there own age range, but on one holiday the young girl spent most of her time with a MUCH older person and they had a great time. I hope you give JY a go and then there will be no stopping you I am sure.

Hi Lionelc,

I am 52 years old and went on my first JY holiday last year. I lost my husband just over 4 years ago and it took me 2 years to pluck up the courage to book with JY. I thought of doing a small trip first but took the plunge and went on the 'Magic of Kenya' holiday. Wow it was fantastic:The holiday of a lifetime. I had absolutely no need to worry. Everyone was so friendly. The age range was aprox 30-70 but everyone mixed so well and really got on. The tour manager looked after us brilliantly!!! I have now booked to go to Peru with the Amazon add on next march and cant wait. Be brave and just go for it. You won't be sorry!!!

Hello

I'm 52 and also quite shy so the thought of mixing with complete strangers on my own terrified me.

I also thought of doing a short break first but when I considered the cost I though Oh to hell with it and just booked a longer holiday.

I went to Andalucia...got back a few days ago.

I was worried about going through the airports and flying on my own but it was so simple.

The hotel was good, the area lovely and the people were all friendly and good company. Ages were between 39 and 80 but age really doesn't matter....You all have the most important thing in common..you are all on holiday together and there to enjoy yourselves. So please don't worry about having similar interests with anyone, it really doesn't matter.

Enjoy! Whatever you decide to do.

Dawn

Thanks for all the encouraging messages. Sounds like everyone has really enjoyed the JY experience, so I'll book the NY event I think - nothing to lose! Li
