hi im traveling to china on feb 15th 2012 from manchester has anyone got any tips for the trip and wot to expect?
Hi Antony,
I did this trip in March. Oh boy are you in for a treat. There is so much to see and do - you will love it! Yes, it is very fast-paced but you cram so much in, you don't notice.
If you want tips on currency - only take about £50 of yuan with you and change the rest in China because the exchange rate is better and everyone has to give the same rate. The hotel reception will change Sterling. I suggest you take your credit and debit cards - but inform your bank and credit card company so they will not block the cards. These will come in handy if you want to make any other purchases but don't want to use up your cash.
Electrical stuff needs the small 2 pin type (like Italy) adaptor for Beijing and Xian - while if you are going to Chengde you will need the adaptor with the 2 flat pins that move (like Oz) there.
The luggage allowance is/was higher if you are flying direct from Heathrow rather than connecting flights.
Any other stuff you need to know before you go, you can ask on here and I am sure someone can help out with the information if I can't.
Have a fantastic trip - I know you will.
Be happy,
Best wishes,
