Chloe.

When I did this tour last year I did the add on as well, as I like a bit of lazying in the sun...I did not do to many of the optional tours here are my thoughts for you: -

Mombasa half day tour: - I did this but to be perfectley honest I did not enjoy it. The heat was unbearable and everytime the coach stopped the beggers were banging on the windows so after getting of once I stayed on the bus. There was not an awfull lot to see and do from what people said.

The full day and village was not operating when I went for some reason not sure why.

Regarding the dolphins not sure what trip that was, but the people that went on it had a great day, but it did leave at approx 06.00am and got back 12 or 13 hours later an awfull lot of that time was on the road.

Haller Park I did and this was OK. and was only for about 4 hours I think.

Fort Jesus Light Show, not many went on this but those that did said it was good.

I am sorry if that does not help you that much but I was just happy to relax after the 1st half of the tour, I found being out and about at the 2nd hotel was not ideal, as the beggars were a problem.

We did venture to the local supermarket 4 of us as we got a taxi from the hotel he waited while we shopped and then brought us back.

I had a great holiday animals were just out of this world and loved the relaxing in the 2nd hotel.

If I can help with anything else apart from the tours ha ha let me know

Cindy

Hi Chloe,

I returned from this trip 2 weeks ago, had a fantastic time, met some really nice people.

With regard to trips, the Mombassa Full-day City tour + Ngmongo Village doesn't run anymore. The half day Mombassa trip is worth it, you visit the Fruit market (busy) and other places, but basically you see the sites, the Somak guide explains everything about Mombassa, I would suggest if you are intending buying any wood carvings then do so on this trip when you vist the Akamba Co-Operative where all the carvings are done (much cheaper to buy here than in the shops or from traders, plus the carvers get 80% of the price of the items sold)

I went on the Dolphin Dhow and had a great day, yes it is long we left at 6.10am and got back at 7.30pm, but to see dolphins and swim with Sea Turtles who cares how long the day was, some on my tour didn't enjoy this trip, food was basic and the road was bumpy (well last 15km anyway), but well worth it, this trip and the La Marinas Dhow are on the same day so unless you are doing the extension you can't do both, those that went on this trip said they enjoyed it.

Haller Park is now a trip on its own, as Nixon said its just a short trip (its only up the road from the Hotel), it was enjoyable and we got to feed Giraffe and could almost touch a Hippo (it had its head on the wall, just inches from us), I went in morning on the day we flew back so only fed Giraffes, other animals are fed in the afternoons.

Didn't do Fort Jesus Sound and Light, but a few went and enjoyed it (you see Fort Jesus in the daytime on the Half Day Tour).

Others may tell you things and then you will have to make up your mind.

Yes the beggars can be a problem, but the beach traders will leave you alone if you say no a few times.

Oh and just so you know, you won't be spending anytime on the beach, maybe just the odd walk and paddle in the sea, too many beach traders for you to stay too long, plenty of room in the Hotel grounds to sunbathe.

You will have a fantastic holiday, I would have preferred to stay up in the Park at the Lodge the whole time, but we had to come back to Mombassa.

The Somack people were great and the staff at the Lodge were very helpful, the people can't do enough for you, so if you want to know more, just ask.

regards,

Martin

Hi Chloe

I agree with everything Martin said. I have just got back from the best holiday ever. If you want to do all the trips you need to book the extension as you can't do everything. I did the Dolphin Dhow, yes it was a long day but worth it. You need to do Haller Park in the afternoon if you want to see the crocs and the hippos being fed - the hippos only come out of the water then. The people who did the Sound and Light show said it was fantastic.

Our rep was also fantastic - many thanks to Jan Lumley, she made the trip special.

In my opinion one extra day on safari and another in Mombasa would be perfect even if it would cost a bit more.

Hope you have as good a holiday as we did.

Hi Chloe,

I did this fantastic trip 2 years ago. Re excursions, I did the Mombasa Half Day which I found very interesting - we didn't get any hassle at all - you just need to keep close to the Tour guides. Haller Park is just up the road from the hotel, and 5 of us took a taxi ourselves and it was much cheaper! You have to hire a guide in there but it was buttons! I did the Dhow trip where we had lunch, went snorkelling, had at least 10 entertainers on the boat (there were only 3 of us!) - highly recommended. The traders on the beach are good-natured, you just have to keep saying NO!

You'll have a great time - enjoy!

Cheers,

Hils
