Hi Lizzy

I have been on this trip on 6 previous occasions as I used to go twice per year.

I went in Both May and September/October time. And experienced a mix of weather. I have had scorching sun, And pouring rain, And have also had a mix of both on the same day. The Red Wine trail, which is the furthest walk. As long as you are prepaired, By carrying some sort of water proofing. However I would imagine in June it will be fairly warm. I would also ebsure you have a hat, sun glasses and sun lothion. The first part is more or less under some cover of trees, However the second half is very open as you walk through some vine yards. As an experinced Rambler you will have no problems with this, It is a great little trip with some outstanding views.

Enjoy your trip

Andy

Hi Lizzy

I forgot to add, That the walking on this trip is fairly gentle, Although I would say the Red Wine Trail is a fair Hike. However if you feel that it wasn't enough for you. In the town of Altenahr, where you will be staying there are plenty of places to walk to and explore. However most of it is upwards. I would speak with your tour manager first though before wandering off and doing these.

Regards Andy

Hi Lizzy,

I'm also booked on this trip for June next year.

I did a similar trip (Walks and Castles of the Moselle)to this region in June '09 which included part of the Red Wine Trail. During the day it was generally quite warm and sunny though we did have one heavy downpour which lasted a few hours. On the walks I wore polo-shirts and lightweight walking trousers, with a sleeveless fleece in my ruckie which I used a couple of times. Some of the others wore shorts. In the evenings, especially after dark, it did get really quite cold and I wished I'd taken a couple of jumpers - I will this time!

Hope that helps?

Julian

Hi Lizzie, This will also be my 1st holiday with JY to Ahr Valley next June, I expect it to be fairly warm but it always pays to take lightweight waterproofs.

I also like walking and went on the Lycian Way, Turkey last may with a different company, it was very good, I don`t think Ahr Valley will be quite as tough but really looking forward to it.

That`s as much as I can tell you, I`ve never been to Germany, Mike.
