Hi Rosemary

I did the trip in March this year, it was the best holiday I have had.Seeing the animals is a breathtaking experience, and if you get the chance go on the balloon trip it is well worth it.

I would recommend this holiday,it is a great experience.

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the reply.

Ok to pick your brains re the trip ?

Did you find the Safari part of the trip long enough, I like the idea of relaxing by the beach afterwards but am not sure if a few more days on safari would be better spent, also did you find watersports were available to you at the beach resort as well as excursions etc if you felt the need to explore ?

Also am interested in the age group of the travellers, yes I know that old chestnut again.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Rosemarie

We were all sorry to leave the Safari but it was nice to relax for a week as there is a lot of traveling and early mornings on safari.

There are water sports available at the beach and several excursions, the tour of Mombasa is well worth it.

As for age, the youngest two or three were in their early 30`s most were around 50 something but several in their 70`s.

Age realy did not matter, we all got on very well. On our safari bus, (you are split into groups of 6 or less) we had the youngest member and I think the oldest the rest of us were probably all in our 50`s but we had a fantastic time together.

You need to take a soft sided holdall for the safari and a suitcase for the beach, which is left in Mombasa. The buses only have limited space for luggage.

Hope this is useful.

Hi Christine,

Many thanks for your reply and the tip re luggage, definitely not a holiday that requires matching shoes and bags !! Will make a nice change to travel light.

Rosemarie

I was thinking of booking this holiday in June 07 also. But when I looked at the list of dates on the internet i couldn't see any dates in June.

The other times which would suit me are April & May but i believe this is the rainy seaon. Does anyone know how much rain?

Hi Kim,

For some reason the website is not showing all the holiday dates, I am booked to go on 11th June 07 so it may benefit you to give them a call.

Kind regards

Hi Kim

You will have a great time on this holiday. The safari buses meet you at the airport, and you have the same bus for the length of the safari, so if you make any friends at the airport or on the plane sit on the same bus as them. The soft sided holdall comes on the safari with you, your case is left at the airport and will be at the hotel in Mombasa when you arrive there.

There are several excursions available in Mombasa. The tour of Mombasa is well worth it, you get to see Mombasa, go to the market and have a tour of a wood carving "factory" where you see the workers carving their wares and also have an oppotunity to buy some if you want to. There are two boat trips in the daytime, I did the one where you get the chance to swim with dolphins and also go snorkeling, you have lunch on the boat. It is a long day but worth it. I also did the evening boat trip, you go on a cruise, have dinner and are entertained ,it was very good.

We also had a trip to an orphanage and school organised by our tour manager and guide, but I do not know if this is always available.

Have a great time, there is so much to see and do.

Hi Christine

Did you travel with all your luggage in one case and then split in at Mombassa? I have tried contacting the service desk at travelsphere and do not seem to be able to speak to anyone who can explain how to manage the luggage situation

thanks

Hi Kim

I took the case and roll bag seperately, its no problem on the Monarch flight as you have 30kilos allowance, however if you are flying from a local airport to Gatwick I would contact the airline you are flying with.

Have a great time, I would love to go back to Kenya

Hi Christine

I did the trip in March and it was fantastic. Going to load some photos in the next couple of days.

A couple of people I was with had things for children but we never had the opportunity to meet the children and give them anything.

During the safari part we had to pay for excursions in local currency apart from the balloon flight which I was able to pay for in travellers cheques or you could use a credit card as the balloon company came to the lodge the day before to collect payment. The excursions for the second week I was able to pay for in travellers cheques (not sure if you could use credit card or not).

I am sure you will have a fantastic time - let me know how you get on

Hi Christine

Yes the children are realy pleased with note books and pencils/pens.You can give them to children you see in the street on the trips. Our tour manager took us to a school and an orphange near Mombassa so we were able to give a lot of them out then, and they were greatly appreciated.

I know you can pay for the balloon trip by credit card, and I think you can also pay for the other trips but am not absolutely certain.

We had 35kilos of luggage allowance so there was no problem.

There is a swimming pool at some of the lodges, so pack a cosy in roll bag if you fancy a dip.

I hope you have a great time, I am going to Borneo on 4th June, let me know how you got on when you get back.
