Hi Julia or Monty

First of all a Happy New Year.

The Kenyan Safari, seeing it in the brochure again wonderful. I have done this trip twice in 2007 and 2008 After our departure with JY was cancelled in 2007 my friend and I did the TS trip, which I did again the following year with another friend. Had a fantastic time on both trips and quite keen on doing it again.

However, I do think JY should make it more clear that on this trip we don't get single accommodation-unless we pay a supplement to get one of the limited single rooms..Perhaps you could be kind enough to mention this to who ever it concerns.

Also our TM was John Coleman, an ex balloon pilot, who hails from Market Harborough. He had lived In Kenya and had been a balloon pilot there .John was an excellent TM, but I think he may have retired.

If he could lead The JY trips again to Kenya it would be the icing on the cake.

Kind regards

Di

Hi Di,

I am glad to see that you have been to Kenya with us before and thoroughly enjoyed it. We do state that you will be sharing a room on both the website and the brochure. Also, if you ring one of our holiday advisors they will tell you the same information and an upgrade to a limited single room at a supplement is available.

I'm afraid John no longer works for us and hasn't for a couple of years now. We do have a Tour Manager and a Specialist Local Guide allocated to all of the departures, so I do hope they will match (or even exceed) John's expertise.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Monty

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I can see the bit in the brochure now where it states "accommodation in a shared room" That's what comes of looking at a new brochure at 10pm at night and seeing Kenya in it it again. Sorry,I just thought it may have needed a little more highlighting.

I am also sorry John has retired but after doing 9 TS tours and 11 JY tours I have never encountered a bad tour guide. Apart from two who were just OK all the others have been super.I did my first JY trip in Oct 2005,presumably just after JY were set up.

Why can't Untamed Tanzania and Zanzibar in the TS brochure be included in the JY brochure, stating that accommodation is in shared rooms, as in the Kenyan holiday.

I think Tanzania has been mentioned previously in a thread and it was stated that JY couldn't do Tanzania because they couldn't get enough single rooms,if my memory is correct. Perhaps I should do a search for Tanzania..

As much as I want to return to Kenya, I can't book anything else until after my Borneo trip in May!

Kind regards

Hi Di,

That's no problem - maybe that is something we can look at doing in our future brochures. I am delighted to hear you've never encountered a bad tour guide, we take great pride in our Tour Managers and Local Guides.

That's a very interesting question. If the JY Kenya tour proves popular with sharing rooms, we may well look at offering something similar for the Untamed Tanzania and Zanzibar tour. We are really interested to know whether the sharing option will be successful.

Kindest regards,

Monty

I to have been to Kenya with JY in the past and shared a room, all the people who did this tour didn't mind for a couple of days, but most if not all were very happy to get to the next hotel and have our own rooms personally I wouldn't mind for a couple of days but I wouldn't want it for a whole tour, I do like my own space.

Monty it might be worth putting a link up asking the question if people would like to share? Before looking into it much further as a tour.

Hi Di, Monty, Cindy et al!

I'd be very interested in doing Tanzania - I'm one of those who has been asking for it. But I really want to do Ngorongoro and Serengeti, rather than Selous as they are the iconic national parks. I don't understand why JY can't source single rooms for a Tanzania tour, after all the opposition have offered exactly such a tour for many years! I really do not want to share a room at all as I value my privacy and if this became the norm with JY I would look elsewhere!! If I ever decided to do the Kenya tour or similar, I would certainly be looking to upgrade to solo occupancy.

All the best,

Bob

Hi All,

I too agree with Bob regarding sharing a room (this is one of the reasons I use JY!). The original Kenya holiday was my 2nd with JY, and a "top tip" for some of you considering the new tour is to ask whether, if there is an odd number of ladies on the trip, can you have a room to yourself?! It worked for me! There was, at the time, no option to upgrade to a solo room.

I would love to do Kenya again, but I have been to most of the parks mentioned in the new tour, so it looks like Namibia for me this year!

Cheers,

Hils

Tanzania is a beautiful Safari destination.

I was in the Tarangire National Park of the main tourist beaten track.

Hardly ever saw another vehicle. Beautiful. JY worth thinking of. Tanzania would be a fully booked destination

Hello all

I shared a room each time I went on the Kenyan safari, but each time with a friend, but I really much prefer my own room and space.

Bob, as for Tanzania I would much prefer the Serengeti to Selous but going to either would be a bonus and I would also love to go to Zanzibar.

Regards

I wasn't given the option of upgrading to single occupancy for Kenya or else I would off. There was a lady who had her own chalet but she had medical issues. So I assumed that's why she was in her own. Or perhaps as you say she was the odd number.

I was under the impression we had to share due to the lack of chalets on site. Or else I would of been very happy to put my hand in my pocket to have a chalet to my self.

When I went the manager said either he would decide who went with who, or if we had made a buddy by then we could choose that person.

As I have said it was ok for those few days, but NOT a whole tour.

I agree with Bob and Hils. I would never choose to share a room,. Although it's great travelling with a group, I do like to have private space to chill out from time to time.

I've booked this holiday for next October but have paid the supplement for a single room. Like the others, I would not consider this trip if I had to share a room for the entire holiday and am a bit concerned that the trip may not go ahead because of this. It would be a shame as the itinerary, number of safaris and accommodation are fantastic. Fingers crossed!

Hi

I am interested in this holiday and like Sally would pay the supplement for a single room as I would definitely not want to share a room. I have shared a room with my sister but sharing one with a stranger is a definite NO NO. Hence I was pleased to see that there were a few single room available at a supplement on this holiday.

Sally, I look forward to a review on your return and sincerely hope that this holiday is popular. As you said the itinerary is fantastic and I definitely want to do this holiday.

Hi Julia, Monty and everyone, I am interested in going on the Kenya Safari but am confused by the sharing a room. I have just rung JY and Mahash tells me it is only sharing a room for the 2 nights at Ashnil Mara? Julia/Monty please can you cofirm? Also he was unable to tell me how much single supplement would be on the September tour. Can you help? Sorry folks, one more question, I can't decide whether to go in September or October.. I have researched on the internet but am becoming more and more undecided. Any comments and help would be much appreciated. Thank you. 🙂

Hi Annette,

I am very sorry for the confusion here. You will be sharing a room in every hotel/lodge on this tour, unless of course you can secure a single room. The single supplement for the September departure is £599 and for October it is £519.

There is not much difference between travelling to Kenya in September and October . As the country is located in the southern hemisphere and is quite close to the equator, the weather should be fairly pleasant.

If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Could I ask how many people have booked so far for the October departure to Kenya. I am quite concerned that the sharing element will put people off and that this trip won't go ahead.

Thanks

Hi Sally,

There are currently 6 travellers booked on this date.

A little bit of Just You history for you..... We have previously operated holidays to Kenya where sharing was needed in some of the lodges and they were still very popular - we only ceased operating the tour following FCO advice.

Kindest regards,

Julia

When I went on the Kenyan safari a few years ago...it certainly DIDNT put people of sharing for a couple of nights, it worked really well, and we understood why...every one just mucked in and got in with it all..

Sorry Sally I didn't realise this is NOT the same tour I did, when I went to Kenya we only shared a room for the safari part when we relocated to next hotel, we then reverted back to having solo occupancy rooms...
