I was looking on the FCO travel advice for Russia (concerned about the anthrax outbreak in Siberia).

All seems to be under control!  But I did notice a new requirement from 1/6/2016.

Any prescription drugs taken into Russia need to be accompanied by the doctor's letter/

prescription giving the name of the drug, dosage etc.  No problem so far.  But, further,

we need a 'notarised translation'.  Has anyone been to Russia this summer and had any problems?

I found this online.

I'm not sure if it helps.  Hope it does though.  :s

Hi as if going to Russia wasn't complicated enough!  I hope we can get some guidance on this.  I do seem to remember a few people saying similar things about going to China and some other countries - and when I went to China we were never asked to show medicines, prescriptions etc so perhaps this will be the same with this new "regulation?"  I'm thinking about going to Russia next year if JY run the tour, but I'm also wondering would it be worth all the hassle?!!

All the best,

Bob

Hi Elaine,

Thanks for the link - it looks like only mood altering drugs are on the list.  That's a relief!

All the best,

Bob

Omg, how complicated is this. I usually take a copy of my prescription wherever I travel just to be on the safe side. But all that business of solicitors and translations. I bet a lot of people travelling to Russia don't know about this and I wonder how rigidly it is enforced. Glad I've already been to Russia!

So glad I am not on any prescription medications. Sounds a bit of a nightmare.

Very helpful link - thank you.  There are a few puzzling (and unhelpful) articles online.

But it looks like antidepressants and similar.  One article mentions

over-the-counter drugs eg strong pain relief may well be banned too.

Hopefully by the time you visit, Bob, the mist will have lifted and we'll have better

info.  The visa application isn't too much more complicated than in years gone by.  Except

that you need to list every country visited (as per your passport) with dates.

Some of my stamps were almost illegible so I had to use old calendars to remind me (thank

goodness I kept them).  The fingerprinting takes about 30 seconds.

All part of the fun!
