Once again a lovely holiday from JustYou. Helped of course by a brilliant group of travelling companions who got on very well.
Day 1.
Seven of us from Bristol, and others from the Belfast and Liverpool flights were first to arrive at Malaga and were greeted by Jackie O'Donoghue, our tour manager with her infectious smile. We were soon on our way to the hotel and had the afternoon to explore before meeting all the others at the get together drink that evening.
Day 2.
Off to Malaga today, plenty to see especially if you are into Picasso, with two museums on him. The Cathedral was very imposing. Myself, I went to the harbourside and onto the ferris wheel to get a full view of Malaga. A number of attractions in Spain give good reductions if you are over 65 and this was one of them. After that back to the city centre to sample one of the many bars and restaurants and to meet up with some of the others.
Day 3.
To Ronda today..........didn't it rain!........and hailstone!! Lovely place though with the bridge and churches. There was a large wedding just finished at the town hall and they were all soaked waiting for mini buses but they were still smiling in all their finery so why should we complain?
Day 4.
Optional trip to Granada and the Alhambra Palace today. All I can say is, "what a place". A lot of walking though on uneven ground. A local guide with vast knowledge led us around with the aid of radio earpieces, he called us his family! All in all a good day.
Day 5.
Today we went to Frigiliana and the onto Nerja. Frigiliana is a hill town with just two main streets containing nice shops and bars, this was on the way to Nerja which is a coastal town. A number of us went to the beach and into the sea, very nice it was too.
Day 6.
Optional trip to Gibralter. What a nice place. A number of people have said that it was a dirty sea port, not at all. After driving across Gibralter airport runway! it was through passport control and basically back into Britain, albeit tax free. Gibralter is a small place but big at the same time. We stopped at the coach park and we got onto a mini bus for a trip up the rock, through tunnels not really big enough! The tour of the rock included entry into St Michael's Cave, brilliant. The bus dropped us near in Casemates Square which is central. Four of us decided that we'd like to go back up the rock in the cable car, a good decision, the views were outstanding, again cheaper for us oldies!
Day 7.
Free day today to have a good wander around Mijas, everytime I went there I saw something new. Others went further afield, the bus service was good and inexpensive.
Day 8.
Back to UK. After being the first to arrive we were then first to leave with a 7:30 pick up from the hotel.
The very positive bits.
Tour manager, Jackie, excellent, with her wicked laugh!
The content of the tour just about right, I did both optional trips and even though it was a lot of walking it was good.
Mijas itself is a lovely clean town with no graffiti or trouble at all.
And, of course, my fellow travellers, we gelled so well (even if I can't remember a lot of their names).
Also a big thanks must go to the staff at Malaga and Bristol airports, one of our group, Phillipa, had a heavy fall in Malaga airport. We saw her safely to the assistance desk and they whisked her through on a buggy. At Bristol she was collected by a young chap with a wheelchair and taken through arrivals and got a taxi for her.
The negative bits in my view.
The hotel was tired and in need of rejuvenation, although the public areas like the restaurant, the bar and pool were good
The food was uninspiring, a number of us went out into the town at night to eat.
FINALLY
On a very personal note.
This is my third holiday with justyou and for the last two I have shared my room with unwelcome livestock, last year at the first hotel in Sicily I had to kill a cockroach in my room and this year I had an infestation of ants in the room AND bed. I woke up to find myself covered in them which led to me demanding another room at 3am. They obviously knew that there was a problem, when I complained earlier and they said that they would sort it, they did, for one night only. I have a video of my bed if anyone would like to see it.
Overall though a very nice holiday.
Thanks to everyone involved.
