Once again a lovely holiday from JustYou. Helped of course by a brilliant group of travelling companions who got on very well.

Day 1.

Seven of us from Bristol, and others from the Belfast and Liverpool flights were first to arrive at Malaga and were greeted by Jackie O'Donoghue, our tour manager with her infectious smile. We were soon on our way to the hotel and had the afternoon to explore before meeting all the others at the get together drink that evening.

Day 2.

Off to Malaga today, plenty to see especially if you are into Picasso, with two museums on him. The Cathedral was very imposing. Myself, I went to the harbourside and onto the ferris wheel to get a full view of Malaga. A number of attractions in Spain give good reductions if you are over 65 and this was one of them. After that back to the city centre to sample one of the many bars and restaurants and to meet up with some of the others.

Day 3.

To Ronda today..........didn't it rain!........and hailstone!! Lovely place though with the bridge and churches. There was a large wedding just finished at the town hall and they were all soaked waiting for mini buses but they were still smiling in all their finery so why should we complain?

Day 4.

Optional trip to Granada and the Alhambra Palace today. All I can say is, "what a place". A lot of walking though on uneven ground. A local guide with vast knowledge led us around with the aid of radio earpieces, he called us his family! All in all a good day.

Day 5.

Today we went to Frigiliana and the onto Nerja. Frigiliana is a hill town with just two main streets containing nice shops and bars, this was on the way to Nerja which is a coastal town. A number of us went to the beach and into the sea, very nice it was too.

Day 6.

Optional trip to Gibralter. What a nice place. A number of people have said that it was a dirty sea port, not at all. After driving across Gibralter airport runway! it was through passport control and basically back into Britain, albeit tax free. Gibralter is a small place but big at the same time. We stopped at the coach park and we got onto a mini bus for a trip up the rock, through tunnels not really big enough! The tour of the rock included entry into St Michael's Cave, brilliant. The bus dropped us near in Casemates Square which is central. Four of us decided that we'd like to go back up the rock in the cable car, a good decision, the views were outstanding, again cheaper for us oldies!

Day 7.

Free day today to have a good wander around Mijas, everytime I went there I saw something new. Others went further afield, the bus service was good and inexpensive.

Day 8.

Back to UK. After being the first to arrive we were then first to leave with a 7:30 pick up from the hotel.

The very positive bits.

Tour manager, Jackie, excellent, with her wicked laugh!

The content of the tour just about right, I did both optional trips and even though it was a lot of walking it was good.

Mijas itself is a lovely clean town with no graffiti or trouble at all.

And, of course, my fellow travellers, we gelled so well (even if I can't remember a lot of their names).

Also a big thanks must go to the staff at Malaga and Bristol airports, one of our group, Phillipa, had a heavy fall in Malaga airport. We saw her safely to the assistance desk and they whisked her through on a buggy. At Bristol she was collected by a young chap with a wheelchair and taken through arrivals and got a taxi for her.

The negative bits in my view.

The hotel was tired and in need of rejuvenation, although the public areas like the restaurant, the bar and pool were good

The food was uninspiring, a number of us went out into the town at night to eat.

FINALLY

On a very personal note.

This is my third holiday with justyou and for the last two I have shared my room with unwelcome livestock, last year at the first hotel in Sicily I had to kill a cockroach in my room and this year I had an infestation of ants in the room AND bed. I woke up to find myself covered in them which led to me demanding another room at 3am. They obviously knew that there was a problem, when I complained earlier and they said that they would sort it, they did, for one night only. I have a video of my bed if anyone would like to see it.

Overall though a very nice holiday.

Thanks to everyone involved.

Hi Alan,

I'm glad you enjoyed this tour - it was my first JY hol eight years ago and I really enjoyed it.  The TRH Hotel Mijas always seems to divide JY customers - some think it's fine, others do not.  I presume the overall feedback must be positive as JY continue to use it.  I personally liked it, although I didn't have an ant problem!  Warmer climates than ours certainly can cause a proliferation of insect life, but I'm glad the staff got you a new room without delay.  I was staying in a villa in Jamaica in February with friends and also suffered an infestation of ants in my room - I was bitten all over.  My three other friends didn't have any problem in their rooms at all!  I found the food in the hotel to be ok, not brilliant but acceptable - a few from the group also went out once or twice to get a change of scene.

All the best,

Bob

Hi Alan E,  huge thanks for your excellent review.  I have been undecided about which holiday to book and your review swung it for me!!!  So am now booked in for Andalucia on 20 Sept. looking forward to the Ferris wheel and other delights.  Interested to know where next for you.  Thanks, again.  Keep those reviews coming!

Ants can build their nests anywhere! I too have stayed at this hotel in 2010 and did not have any problems with the ants and I also had no problem with the hotel. Mijas is a truly lovely place. I would love to go back one day.

Regards

Jaya

Hi Alan

Thanks for this great review. Another great holiday by the sounds of it (ants excluded) and again a excellent group of people. I have just returned from Highlights of Tuscany and a fab group and posted review if that's one on your radar. I think it will now have to come in third after Calabria and Puglia.

Many thanks Paul

Hi Alan E, great review of our tour and I agree it was a fab bunch of people - really interesting, fun and kind people who mixed well and made every day special. I am so sorry to hear poor Phil had a fall, what a lovely and funny lady she is.  I would recommend this tour to anyone but I agree with some of your points on the hotel- you handled your “incident “ very well, I would have screamed the place down!!

Thanks also for a fun afternoon at the pool and your gentlemanly conduct helping us ladies into that freezing water - it was great once in. Enjoyed everyone’s company very much particularly yourself, James, Jeff, Jan and Jan, Lucyna, Phil, Kate, Pat, Jeanette, naughty Dave, V. , Chris Etc etc and my good new mates Cara and Gaynor. John was a star and all others whose names may have escaped me! xxxx

Intrepid traveller, I've only just seen your reply. Last year was Calabria (in the rain) and this year, in May is Sardinia, let's hope it's sunny.
