Hello Julia,

Thrilled to see the skiing holidays on the website.  They all look terrific.  Before I book, just wanted to ask if any more dates are likely to be available?  Issue for me is I can't do the two early dates in January, so that rules out Italy and Austria.

Thanks

Katy

Good Afternoon Katy,

We are closely monitoring the bookings and demand for the ski holidays. If the holidays are high in demand, we will definitely look into additional tour dates.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Thanks, Mildred.

Decided to go ahead and book.  So going to Bulgaria next January, the date for beginners and those who haven't skied recently.  Surprised to learn that there were already 4 people booked, as I was not aware of these dates until today, hadn't seen any promotion of it, it was only Julia's comments in the Monday musings section that alerted me.  Do hope these ski trips take off, and that by 2019 we have a lot more dates.

Regards

Katy

Hi Katy

I wish I could join you on the skiing trip to Bulgaria - but I think my skiing years are over.

Back in the late 1970s/early 1980s I went skiing in Bulgaria a couple of times - of course it was a Communist state then and very austere - lots of concrete and soldiers - we ate a lot of chocolate as most meals were potato soup, sometimes topped by flaming cheese on toast! Both soft toilet paper and Levi jeans were used as currency. The resort was not far from Sofia and at the weekend we were joined by the locals - well wrapped up in greatcoats and I remember whole families "tobogganing" on long plastic sheets. The  skiing was good - sometimes quite adventurous - once it was necessary to clear a huge crevasse by skiing downhill at speed - as I took off I shut my eyes..........

I have been back to Bulgaria more recently and the change in lifestyle in the cities and resorts is  amazing, although sometimes in the countryside it feels like stepping back in time.

The actual ski resort (can't recall the name) at the time was well organised, had an effective lift system with well prepared runs and English speaking instructors - so all these years later it should be excellent! I do hope you have a great time and look forward to reading all about it! Wrap up well  🙂

Kedi, sorry to hear you've given up on skiing. Do reconsider....  I thought I had, but only because I'd no one to go with anymore.  Never been to Bulgaria before, would prefer Austria but couldn't do that date.  But as this one is for beginners and returners probably more appropriate for me.  Do hope the resort has moved on from when you went to Bulgaria some time ago, as I'm getting older I do like more comfortable hotels than I would put up with when I was younger.

With luck if these skiing trips take off, there may be some more destinations (my wish would be North America).

Will write a review when I'm back.  But there doesn't seem to be much love for skiing holidays on this forum.

I did look up the resort on line - looks busy with plenty of lifts and runs - not to mention night life! I am sure the hotel will be fine - certainly the food will be much improved!! and I would anticipate you will find it far less expensive in resort than Austria or Switzerland.

No chance of getting back to any level of ski fitness I am afraid - however, if there was a chance to ski in North America at one of the well known resorts I might make the effort!!  😉

Kedi,

Yes, I looked the resort and hotel up online - seems OK.  And there was the bonus, as you say, of a cheaper holiday than Austria etc.  Fingers crossed these ski trips work out and that North America is on offer in future. :)
