Hi

I'm booked on Canada and New England on the 23rd September. Not long to go now, just 8 weeks. I have a few questions for you about this trip.

Firstly what are the latest numbers for this trip including the New York add on.

Is a tour guide appointed yet and will he or she be meeting us at Heathrow or when we arrive in Boston.

Is there anyone else travelling down from Manchester on the same flight as I'm on.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

For the Canada and New England with New York tour, there are currently two of you. However, you will be joined by 18 other people for the Canada and New England leg of your holiday.

Your tour manager is provisionally set as Carole Klopper, for the Canada and New England part of your holiday. Carole will be meeting you at Heathrow Airport. The tour manager for New York has not yet been allocated.

I will hand this over to your fellow travellers, but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

When I did this tour same time last year, once the main tour groupcame home, thosethat were left in NY did not have a tour manager, you did your own thing including getting back to JFK airport, perhaps things have changed?

I would thoroughly recommend going across to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and also doing a guided tour of 9/11 you can book both these on line before you go and pay for them and print tickets out saves time and queuing when you get there..if your staying at the hotel,in the financial district (Think it was Double Tree) both of these things are walking distance, also couple nice museums close by, and some nice eating places. Also take the train up to Central Park for a buggy ride or a wander around,I had a great tour and doing the things on my own I really did enjoy!..the hotel arranged transport back to JFK airport for us you do have to,pay.

Any questions just ask!

Thanks Cindy

The 911 is at the top of my list of things I want to do in New York. I'm glad it's not far away. I remember the Oklahoma Bomb site we visited while doing Route 66 and the 911 Memorial will also be a great thing to see. I've been told about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty by friends at work. They say just get the ferry across and take photos as you pass as it. Central Park is on my list of laces to go and the buggy ride sounds great.

The main problem with New York is that there is way too many things to do in just a few days. I'm in the process of making a list and then I will prioritise them.

I love the USA and can't wait to get back there.

Thanks for your help Cindy. (Your review of this tour was great)

Hi Cindy

I do have one question you can help me with. Are the food and drink prices in Canada the same as the USA? I'm wondering on how much in Canadian Dollars to take with me.

Thanks

I would definitely get off the boat for a closer look at the statue and you can book tours to go up inside the statue I did all that this way and paid same for 9/11 it's so easy, then it's done. The boats run every 15 ???? Minutes so there is always one coming or going it's like a water taxi, have a good look online at the website I would hate you to miss a good photo opportunity.

It's well worth paying for a guided tour at 9/11 you learn so much, my one was led by a young lady, but you did have head phones, so you didn't have to stand right by her, great photo opportunitys there also great gift shop if your into that sort of thing. I didn't manage to get lost going to either, so you will be fine.

re money Canadian and USA, I didn't spend that much in Canada as CN tower weather was bad so we didn't go up it, and another day out the weather was appalling so sat on coach and just got of to eat lunch.. What ever you reckon for a day per spend for USA do the same for Canada.

I would also reckomend the helicopter over Niagra and the boat, but be warned you get very wet!!!

it's a great tour...but exhausting!!!! Have fun

Thanks Cindy

Really looking forward to it now. Just 7 weeks to go. I know the tours are exhausting because when we did Route 66 we covered some 3500 miles in just over 2 weeks. Early starts most days but worth getting up early because of the sites you see. I hope we can go up the CN Tower. I've been dared to go up it by all my colleagues at work. Generally I'm not a fan of big cities but I loved Chicago when I went there and from what I've seen on the cities we visit on this tour I think I will like them as well.

Thanks for you help.

if your doing the add on there's so much to do, so do some research, if you get stuck I can give you information. I got the train which is close by the hotel, to central station and hired the buggy ride in the park from there.

The helicopter flight over New York is a great way to see things and great fun!

remember you have to make your own way back to JFK airport but the hotel porters can arrange transport depending on how many and how much luggage, you will have to pay for this..

Hi Cindy

Thanks for the info you have given to Wanny as I think I'm on the same Canada, New England, New York tour as her, 30th Sept. All the things you've mentioned sound good so hopefully we will manage to do them too.

Hi Wanny,

Think we've had a couple of messages earlier in year. I'd like to do the trips Cindy mentioned so hopefully we will be able to arrange something . Getting closer now isn't it yippee!!

Best wishes

Sue

Hi

I'm also booked on 23rd September trip with add on. I think that makes 4 of us on the add on which may make getting about without a tour manager less daunting! Perhaps we can work out details when we meet up? There's so much to do and see and I'm really looking forward to the whole holiday!

Hi Mea

I'm looking into a few things to do in New York whilst we are on our own. 911 memorial is top of the list. I may pre book that before we leave. I'm still undecided on what else I'll be doing so I'm open to suggestions from others. Im happy to visit places with yourself and maybe the others who are doing the add on. Safety in numbers as they say.

I'll be flying down from manchester that day so I won't see anyone at the check in desk. So I'll probably see you and the others at the gate. If you want to pre arrange our trips on the New York add on I'm happy for JY to give you my email so we can arrange things before we travel.

Thanks

Paul

my advice for what it is worth is to definatley work out what out a wish list for your free time. also wet and dry day weather options. I am not a great shopper so shopping didnt really interest me. Try typing in top 10 things to see in New York into google and see what comes up. Things I have done and enjoyed.

Seeing a show, there are ticket booths where you can get cheaper tickets on the day thats what I did.

Helicopter flight over New York views are amazing you see so much and your sitting down bonus!

Theres a revolving Restraunt which I went to food really good and amazing views well worth doing!

Horse buggy ride in Central Park, you see so much and your sitting down again, I then got some snack food and went back into Central Park and watched the world go by

9/11 Museum a must for me sombre but a museum done very well, theres a few short films to watch as well, only a coffee shop at the top, you can leave bags and coats in a cloack room, think its a donation

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island well worth doing you get some great photos, and also learn about the US history.

I did two museums close by the hotel, one has visiting exhibitions when I went it was all about the Native Indians I also went to the Jewish Museum which houses a great holocaust exhibition something thats close to my heart.

There really is so much to do and see. you need to plan what is where, as you wont have the time to keep going backwards and forwards, so plan your time well and you will see so much. I was totally fine on my own some things I did buddy up with others. We just made sure those staying on, we all had each others room numbers, and would leave messages on phones to say we were back and available to meet for evening food.

Thanks Cindy, that sounds really sensible advice, both for things to do and a sensible level of security. I really would like to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis island and of course the 911 memorial. Every time I think of something e.g. Brooklyn Bridge, Modern Art Museum etc... I add that to my list. so based on your comments I need to prioritise and look at a map!

Paul, when I'm a bit clearer we can compare wish lists and see where we go from there, I don't know if the others on the add on are on this forum as well?

Hi Cindy and Mea

I'm currently putting a lost together of things to do in New York then I will put them in order of priority. Leaving a message with the others for evening meals sounds a great idea. I'm not too bothered about doing a show and as for the helecopter ride I'm too scared to go up in one. Lol. I think some of the places to see we will do on the tour with the others so we can narrow our list down a little.

Can I just say when I started using JY for my many tours I have done with them a I was very scared of flying I am still not a great lover of flying but it is a means to an end. Having been to Oz and NZ those flights are mega long. I was extremely nervous about doing a helicopter flight my first was in NY, I would really recommend you having a go, I have since been on many more Australia and New Zealand, and even a hot air balloon flight in OZ.

each time I go on a big holiday I try and push my self out of the comfort zone, it's a great thing to do.

So please think about it.

Cindy
