Hello Jaya,

I do hope this clears to go as it was a great trip. We had so much fun- maybe I should rephase that- so much death and destruction- that the whole trip was both informative and thought provoking. At Ypres was the triannual throwing the cats off the belfry-toys now- and there was a parade that we sadly missed as we were at the Somme on the Sunday. Behind the British engineers was the big cat- a huge model that looked like it was eating them whilst we were at the Last Post. I have included that picture on Facebook.

Like Mark, I send good wishes for your health.

Hi Jan, Mark and Elaine

First of all thank you very much for your good wishes. I am much better. I could not come in May, as was going to Namibia - a great holiday. I had not done a long haul for years, but all went well and it was a joy to spend such a good holiday with a wonderful group of people. I am getting a bit concerned about the Battlefields trip not being cleared to go yet as the final payment is due on 26 June. Hopefully it will get the 'go ahead' soon. I would be really sad if the trip does not go ahead as really want to go.

Julia,

In response to the above, has the battlefields tour been cleared to operate yet?

Thanks

I am waiting to hear if mine (Croatia's Istrian Coast 16th September) is being cleared to operate too, Jaya so you have my sympathy.

Yes. I think you are going to Kerala in November? But do you have anything planned for next year?

Hi Elaine and Mark

Yes I have already planned next year and have made the bookings. I have decided to go a bit 'mad' and do two long haul tours as next year is a big birthday. I am doing Mexico, Guatemala and Belize trip in March and South Africa with Zambia add on in September. I am going to be a poor old lady (when I get to the retirement age!!), but am going to enjoy life while I can. I have a long list which keeps on getting longer as new holidays are introduced. Still have to do China, Vietnam and Cambodia, Cost Rica and Nicaragua, Silk Road, Burma etc. Hopefully a couple more people will book the September Battlefields so it will be cleared to operate. I know November Kerala trip has been cleared to operate.

Hi Jaya, I'm delighted you've booked Mexico for March - I'll do a review for sure when I get back from the Feb departure. Also thrilled you have booked S Africa and Zambia for Sept, as you know it is very dear to my heart and I hope you have as magical a time as I did. I hope you splash out and get a camera with a good zoom for some great animal pics!! In the meantime, I hope the Battlefields tour gets the go ahead shortly - at this stage, I imagine the decision will be made very shortly.

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Jaya

I did South Africa last year. Bob is spot on about needing a good zoom lens for the game drives. I treated myself to new camera for the trip, and was so glad I did. If you are really keen on animal pics, try to do all the optional game drives. There were two in Kruger on my tour . I got some amazing pictures of a lion and his four lionesses just as we were about to leave the park on the final drive. I also did the day trip to Chobe national park from Livingstone.

Expensive, but worth every penny.

Hi Everybody

First of all great news that the Battlefields trip has been cleared to operate despite there being only 9 of us. Also, it was a nice surprise to receive a refund of £70 - the cost has gone down so more spending money.

I am going to get a good small camera with a better zoom lens. Have to find some time to get to the shops as have been extremely busy at work since returning from Namibia. Also, am going to do all optional excursions in South Africa / Zambia. Do not want to miss anything!

Bob, I tried to search for your South Africa/Zambia review but could not find it. And I was thinking that I was quite good at such things!! Will try again as want to refresh my memory. I would have joined you and Sally for the Mexico tour in February, but the date was so close to my Kerala holiday. At least I will have a good idea on what to expect after reading your review!!

Hi Jaya, delighted the Battlefields tour has been cleared! Here's the link for my SA and Zambia review (it is very short, this was the first review I did so it's not that detailed) - also the itinerary has changed quite a lot for the SA part of the tour, so some of it may not be relevant. Hope it is of some use:

What may be of more use to you is the thread I put up on the Share Your Travel Tips forum (I suggested this forum be introduced so this was the first post on it!). Here's the link:

All the best,

Hi Elaine and Jan - yes this is going to be a very 'cosy' holiday with such a small group unless more people book before the departure date. Looking forward to it.

Bob, thanks for the links. Am already counting the days for South Africa / Zambia trip even though it is not till September 2016!
