Hi Julia,

I'd be very keen to visit Tibet over the next couple of years so here's hoping JY continue to offer the Land of the Dragon tour with the Tibet add-on! As you know I have to organise my own visas because I live outside the UK. I got a Chinese visa this year without any major problems, but could you find out what is involved in getting the Tibet Travel Permit for me please? I presume I apply for a visa in the usual way and just put in the the travel details, but I'm just wondering if there is anything extra that needs to be done - do they ask for any extra information such as itinerary details or are there any restrictions regarding categories of people who are allowed to travel there?

Many thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

I've contacted our consular services team who have informed me that you would apply for your China Visa as you did this year, and we would need a copy of your passport and a copy of your Visa to obtain the Tibet permission.

I'm sure you are aware that things do change (especially over a couple of years), so I would recommend that you ask again when you are closer to booking this trip and we can give you the most up to date information.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Julia,

Many thanks for that info, it is most helpful and I will certainly do that.

Mark, you're just a young chap still - plenty of time to see the world! Now the travel bug has bitten I'm desperately trying to see as much of the world as I can, as you never know what's round the corner!

Best wishes,

Bob

Hello Bob/Julia

An update  a couple of years on, just for the record:

I am off to China/Tibet/Hong Kong in October with Travelsphere, and it appears that the situation is still the same.

When I completed the Chinese visa application form, I was advised (instructed?) not to include Tibet as one of the places to be visited, and the visa, received back from TS today, makes no mention of Tibet - and, indeed, has no provision for such a mention.

Since only a photocopy of the passport with included visa is required for the Tibet application, I imagine that this will be a group entry permit, and that there will be nothing in our passports to show that we have been there, except possibly for entry/exit stamps at the airport (this was in fact the case for my last visit to China, which was on a group visa).

Hi Jim,

Yes I re-confirm the Tibet permit is for the whole group.

Kind regards,

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for the information especially not putting the Tibet details on the visa application form as I didn't know this.

Bestwishes,

Bob
