Hi Margaret,

When it comes to weather, Vietnam’s climate is so diverse. Think frosts and occasional snow in the mountains of the north, and temperatures soaring to 40°C in the south during the dry season.

Vietnam’s weather is dictated by two monsoons. The winter monsoon comes from the northeast between October and March, bringing damp and chilly winters to all areas north of Nha Trang and dry and warm temperatures to the south. From April or May to October, the summer monsoon brings hot, humid weather to the whole country except for those areas sheltered by mountains. From July to November, violent and unpredictable typhoons hit central and northern Vietnam.

All our Vietnam tours require you to be fairly fit as you walk a fair distance due to the amount of sightseeing included. We suggest you take a comfortable pair of walking shoes/boots, sun cream, sunglasses and a hat. We would also suggest you take a small rucksack to carry drinks etc.

The Vietnamese dress very conservatively. Women and men wear long pants and short or long sleeve tops for the most part. Quite a few Vietnamese wear Capri’s (cropped pants) pants and sleeveless tops. Due to the heat women seem to wear Carpi's or pedal pushers and short sleeve or sleeveless tops.

There will be plenty more information online and also fellow travellers who are members of the community I'm sure will offer some useful insight,

I hope this helps,

Kindest,

Ben

HI Margaret! I'm on the same tour as you and am really looking forward to it. From the bit of research I've done, we've chosen a really good time to go to Vietnam. It is the dry season in the north and south; temperatures in Hanoi and the north will be mild to warm (maybe 12-20C or so) and hotter in the centre and south (perhaps up to 30C or even hotter). By the way, I've checked with JY and we have the option of going on a rickshaw (cyclo) on the optional excursion as well as being able to ride a bike ourselves - in that heat, I know I'm going to sit back and let someone else do the peddling!!

Looking forward to meeting you in Feb,

Bob

Hi Pat, I'm travelling from Belfast and staying at the Comfort Hotel. Where are you staying? I'm a bit anxious about getting there and then back to the airport in the morning as there is no direct bus from the Comfort Hotel to T4, but I'm sure I'll manage it somehow!

All the best,

Bob

Hi Bob

I went on this tour in Sept and it was my best holiday so far with Just You. The cycle ride is very easy and I just wanted to say if you have a choice please cycle rather than take the cyclo. It was magic. The bikes were all in excellent condition with a little basket on the front for your bag, water, camera etc.It is not at all strenuous as we had to go slowly and had to keep waiting for the cyclo's to catch up lol.Do all the excursions, they were excellent. Hoi Ann was my favourate place, swimming in the south China sea at 7.00am was fantastic.Wish I was coming with you. Hope you are doing the Cambodia add on.

Do the comfort hotel not run a curtesy bus for the clients?? Strange if they do not. I am sure they will call you a taxi. Shame I don't drive LOL!!! I could of dropped you off, Heathrow is on my doorstep, yet most tours I go on are from dreaded LGW...

Hi Bob, I do not think there is a problem getting from the Comfort Hotel to T4, take the H58 to T5 and change to any of the following:- H51, H53, H54 or H56. You still only pay once.

Hi Bob

i stayed at the Premier Inn at Heathrow when I went on the Vietnam holiday in April and couldn't fault it. I booked early and paid £29. Other Just You travellers I arranged to meet up with there had paid £79. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel that takes you straight to Terminal 4 about a 20 minute ride. I did a lot of research as Terminal 4 doesn't seem to be served very well for hotel buses. Will definitely use the Premier Inn again. Have a great time in Vietnam (and Cambodia if you are going there).

Kind regards

Iris

Hi Margaret and Eileen, JY booked me into the Comfort Hotel as they said it was by far the cheapest! Pity we are not all staying at the same hotel, hopefully we will meet up early at T4 without any hitches!

Hi Carol, many thanks for the tip - I just read on another post that the cycle ride was very strenuous and one lady collapsed from heat exhaustion at the end of it!! I suppose it depends on how hot it is at the time and also by taking the rickshaw we are at least contributing a little more to the local economy. Looking forward to it and I'm doing the Cambodia add-on as well, can't wait!!

Take care,

Bob

Hi Eileen and Bob, I booked myself into the Premier Inn Bath Road through their internet booking site have paid £39.00 so think that is a good deal. Regards buses there is no problem getting from Terminal 5 to the Premier Inn buses run approx every 30 minutes and there is also a 30 minute service from the Premier Inn to Terminal 4. I am on the Edinburgh BA flight at 15.00 arriving Heathrow T 5 approx 16.00 so if anyone decides to join me at the Premier Inn it would be nice to see you especially for company the night before we leave. If not then looking forward to meeting up at T4 on the morning of departure. 🙂

Hi all,

have decided to join you at the Premier Inn and not bother going into London .

How about meeting for Dinner at 7.30 . I will attach my JY bag tag to my handbag so I can be recognised. Suggest we all do it so it gives us more chance to meet up.

JY used to organise for everyone to meet up and stay at 1 hotel . wish they still did it as it is so nice to meet the night before and not be on your own.

Hi Eileen and Pat , sounds like a good plan we should all have arrived and will be ready for dinner. Really looking forward to our trip and it will be nice to meet up the night before. Be in touch nearer departure date to re-confirm arrangements. Regards Margaret.

Hello all!

I too am on the Vietnam and Cambodia trip on 13th Feb. - although I am going out 3 days early to stay with family. I can thoroughly recommend the Premier Inn (be aware there are 2 Premier Inns in Bath Road!!) - I have just come back from Thailand and stayed there. I'm actually going to stay at The Hilton at Terminal 4 (not cheap I know) but there is a walkway direct from the hotel to the terminal. Glad to see there will be be some fellow Scots - I'm flying down from Glasgow. My friend Pat is coming too!

See you all at the hotel in Hanoi.

Regards,

Hils
