Hi

I am booked for Peru in May, can you tell me how many are going, If we have a tour guide yet and what will the weather be like at that time of year. I am doing the Amazon add on will I have to be careful of mossies.

Sorry just realised that it is creeping nearer

Hello Carol,

There are 19 people on this tour, 11 of which are booked on the Amazon add-on too.

David Crawford is your Tour Manager.

If you have not done so already, it would be good to consult your doctor before going in case you need any vaccines. There mosquitos in the Amazon, so yes you will need to be prepared for this.

The weather should be dry with sunshine and high temperatures often topping 35°C. Have a look at this weblink   which has information about the lodge you will be staying at and lots of useful information about being there.

Kind regards, Sally-Anne, your editor

The weblink was very useful and now the Peru/Amazon tour has notched up a few places on my wish list! Did I read somewhere that it is cold water only in the showers in the lodge?

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Carol

We met up on the China holiday last year. I am thinking about going on Peru in May but need to do a bit more research on whether I might have problems with my breathing at high altitudes due to a lung problem. At the moment I am fairly positive.

I am going to Kenya on the 29 of this month with Just You and hope to make a decision about Peru before I go.

Hi Maureen

Did you decide to go to Peru, I thought that I had put an answer on here before but must not have done it correctly.

I am not good at remembering names, tell me where you are on one of the china group photo's. wasn't that a great holiday

best wishes Carol

Hi Carol & Maureen,

I got back from Peru 2 weeks ago today. I had a fantastic time & it was all I had hoped it would be - and more! I met some super people.

You mention altitude sickness. Most of us experienced altitude sickness in some form or other (including Clair our tour manager). It does not necessarily affect those with breathing problems so don't let this put you off. The hotels at Cusco and Puno provide oxygen for guests - and do take advantage of this. Also free coca tea - I am not a tea drinker but liked this and it does help, believe me. I had a headache but the oxygen & coca tea relieved it. We all got a bit breathless when going uphill - just take it slowly and you will be fine.

If you are doing the Amazon add-on certainly check with your GP for necessary injections. I didn't but made sure all mine were up to date. It was a lot warmer than we expected it to be so you will have good weather.

Have a great holiday.

Be happy,

Best wishes,

Lesley

Hi Bob, I went on the Peru/Amazon trip in march. It was totally amazing!! Yes the shower water in the lodge was cold. It was amazon water run through a sieve (not a filter) so you had to keep your head back so the water did not run over your face and into your mouth. However this only added to the adventure, and as the weather was so hot and sticky the water being cold was just refreshing. I would recomend this trip to anyone!! You must go, you really won't be sorry!!!
