Is there anyone out there going on this tour?  Booked a year ago and getting a bit nervous now.  Would really like to make contact with other travellers.

Hi Elaine

I’m also booked on this tour.  I’ve travelled with JY a number of times and have always enjoyed the tours.

I’ve booked the helicopter flight at the Grand Canyon and will be booking more of the optional excursions shortly.

I’m travelling to London on 19 May and will be staying overnight at the Premier Inn (Bath Road) at Heathrow.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on the tour.

Hi Elaine, I went on this tour last October, and it was absolutely brilliant!  I booked in advance for the helicopter, but decided during the tour to do the fixed wing as well.  The fixed wing Cessna flight over Monument Valley was superb, and it flew over part of the Grand Canyon, so perhaps the helicopter wasn't necessary after all, though it was also a good experience.  Others may have their own thoughts on that.  Each National Park is different, though Yellowstone is a contender for my favourite one.  If you have time when you arrive there, visit the animal rescue centre in West Yellowstone, just a short walk from the hotel, where you get very good views of a grizzly or brown bear, wolves, and birds of prey.  It was my first time in America, but I soon found my feet, and the locals were all very friendly.  You'll have a great time! :shy:

Hi Derek

Thank you for replying.  Feels good to say hello to someone else on this tour after all this time!

I've travelled with JY to USA a few times before but not recently.

Booked on all optional excursions apart from the flight over Grand Canyon because I did that a few years ago.  It was incredible.

I am also staying overnight at Bath Rd Premier Inn so look forward to meeting you and any other travellers.

Hi Ray

Thank you for your info on this tour.  I am really looking forward to Yellowstone and hopefully seeing lots of wildlife and, of course, bears!  I'll certainly visit the animal rescue centre if I get the chance. Thanks for telling me about it.

Hi Elaine, you will see lots of bears, though mostly in the form of statues or sculptures.  We didn't see any in the wild unfortunately, but plenty of bison, elk, prairie dog, and some wild turkey. The Americans do seem to like their sculpture - you will see it as you drive through downtown Rapid City. Take the opportunity to walk around Sheridan and Cody, and if you're into Westerns have a walk around Kanab and view dozens of plaques along the sidewalks with photos and information on well-known actors who made films there.

What I said about the bears at West Yellowstone was wrong, you will see either a grizzly bear (brown bear) or a black bear. We saw a grizzly, which was an orphan from Alaska. Only one bear at a time is let out into the viewing area, a ditch runs around it so there is no fence to obstruct the view.
